The Library Is Open (12/05/05)

Janet unlocks the library and flips on the lights.

Sitting on the Collections Desk is a package addressed to "Adam Pierson." The envelope is embossed with an unusual symbol, the meaning of which Janet didn't know. Except she did, because she steamed open the last envelope that came with that symbol on it. But she couldn't do that to this package without getting caught. And that was really starting to bug her.

She moved the package behind the Collections Desk and glared at it until the first library patron showed up.

Janet puts her cookies in her backpack. "Good morning," said Janet. "Package came in for you."

Methos takes the package (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/420819.html?thread=19663571#t19663571) and frowns at it. "Thanks, Janet. Ah, how was your weekend?"

Janet shrugged. "Just like any other weekend, really. I avoided schoolwork, slept late, and went ice skating."she asked. "How was yours?"


OOC: Fair warning: Whatever-the-heck happened in the library on Friday, Janet is still annoyed at Methos because he's either been not even saying hi or cranky with her since basically the start of last week, and then the whole blow-up happened and she had to run around kicking people out of the library. And I'm playing that Janet has only the vaguest idea of what happened on Friday. So Janet is being very, very polite to Methos and not much else.

"Non-traumatic," Methos says wryly. "So rather different from my week." He sighs and looks at the package in his hand. "This might be the perfect antidote to drama. I hope."

[[ooc: Hence Methos awkwardly asking after Janet's weekend. He's got a vague sense that he's been a prat, although he doesn't know if he has anything to apologize to Janet for, unlike Parker, who he lost his temper at.]]

"Yes, your week certainly was dramatic, whatever it was," said Janet dryly. "So what'd you get?"

"With any luck... a boring translation job. Intellectual valium. From... old employers of mine."

"Oooh, translation," said Janet. "How absolutely thrilling." She grinned at him. "You know, some people actually enjoy that sort of thing. It's like a hobby of theirs." She leaned closer. "And trust me when I say he's an absolute geek about it."

"It's very soothing," Methos says straight-faced. "Like knitting, I'm told. If I get stuck, I might ask Daniel. But this is supposed to be a... rather obscure script (http://www.ancientscripts.com/indus.html). An interesting challenge."

Janet made a face. "I tried knitting once. And I do mean once. I nearly impaled myself on a needle when I fell asleep from sheer boredom."

"Obscure script? Which one?" Janet's face suddenly takes on a very innocent expression. "Oh, I have a final project for Indo-European that I have to work on. I was thinking you might be the right guy to help me? I can't figure out what I want to do."

"Definitely," Methos says. He's not sure what he's said or done right, but Janet's moved from distant politiness to friendliness. "When and where? We never seem to have any time in the library here. Perhaps if we got off campus?"

"That's because people actually use the library for the purpose for which it was intended as well as a center of socialization," said Janet. "Off campus is good. Coffee?"

The next time he has a lousy week, she's making him apologize to her. And he'd better know it.

"Ooh, I feel so special," said Janet, laughing. "After last week, you'd better buy."

Methos looks both blank and scared. "Gods. Did I yell at you, too? I'm sorry."
