"I think I can manage Geoff," Elizabeth smiles. "It's just slightly odd having teachers so relaxed around you."

"Maybe it's because some of us aren't teachers by profession? Or that we're all feeling a little overwhelmed sometimes by this place. Or I suppose it could be that once you've faced off against an invading army of the undead side by side with your students, the distinction becomes a little harder to maintain." He returns the smile, laughing a little.

Elizabeth laughs. "All that could quite conceivably be it," she agrees. "I've known some people who weren't originally trained as teachers who found it difficult to get to a place where they felt natural with what they were doing. Although the invading army of the undead is a bit more local to this school!"

"Well I'm glad to hear that it's not a regular feature of American education!" Geoff joins in the laughter, grinning broadly. "Although I have to say it amuses me just a little to be able to even discuss the idea of a zombie army with such matter-of-factness. And I won't even start on the gremlin infestation, or the fact that the students seem to be turning into animals with great regularity."

"Well, it wasn't a feature of my education at least," Elizabeth smiles. "I think we just have to chalk up Fandom to something completely else!"

"I've been working on a set of tales about Fandom -- a commission for CJ in fact. But I have the feeling that unless they've actually witnessed this town first hand, most people will dismiss it as too fantastic."

He pauses for a minute, looking contemplative. "I wonder sometimes if this place even really exists."

"Really? I'd love to see them someday," Elizabeth says, tilting her head slightly.

She purses her lips. "I think it's a case of this alternate realities, where something exists in the reality it's in." She sighs. "I don't really know."

"If you really want, I'm happy to let you read them. CJ actually has the first tale already -- it was a birthday gift -- and I'm finishing up the second and third right now. I'll let you know when they're fit to be seen." Geoff looks quite pleased at the idea.

"I'm not much of a philosopher, although I've studied a little bit...but I think I'd agree with you. This place isn't...connected to the rest of the world the way it ought to be. Have you noticed how people very rarely ever wander in from the mainland?"

"That would be great, thank you, Geoff," Elizabeth smiles.

She nods slowly. "It is odd. And we're so close to so many cities, which don't seem to be affecting us."

Agreeing, Geoff replies, "It's a beautiful island, really. And...people move here, but not many people seem to visit. I would think it would be crawling with travelers. But even in the eateries you only see residents. And, despite all of the different -- well, beings, I suppose, who live here...there really aren't many conflicts, not what you'd expect with so many people living in such close quarters.

"It's pretty impressive really, when you think about it," Elizabeth says. "I mean normally you'd expect much more conflict in a place like this, which such different diversity. I know there was the fuss between humans and non-humans back during the student council elections, but that seems to have died down a lot now."

She pauses. "Apart from the Angelus vs Angel debate that's still ongoing."

"I've pretty much managed to stay out of the loop on that one -- I know he was supposed to have been responsible for what happened to Kitty Pryde, and I also know that somehow he's supposed to have been...brought under control? But beyond that, I have to say I've been blissfully uninvolved in most of the big problems."

"Yeah, me too. I just listen and hear things," Elizabeth replies. "Angel's in the room next to mine now; I chatted with him in the library earlier, and he seemed, well... normal. Or at least, as normal as anyone in this place can get."

"I have a disembodied voice attending my poetry class" he laughs. "My criteria for normal have been severely altered since I came here."

[OOC: Okay, just have to say: do you realize that we've been at this thread for three days now? *g* I'm thoroughly enjoying talking to Elizabeth, by the way.]

Elizabeth looks both amused and concerned. "Okay, that's really odd," she laughs.

[[ooc: I know! Slow-playing's become second nature to me thanks to my stupid time zone! At least I'm getting comments back now. *g* And I'm loving talking to Geoff. They'll just have to run into each other more often :)]]

"Odder? He goes by 'Death'. So my question is this: is he Death, or is he just some invisible fellow who likes to pretend he's Death. And...which is worse? And, why is Death studying poetry anyway?"

[ooc: We'll have to make sure they do!]

Elizabeth frowns, thinking. "Often the personification of death has been in a human form, but as death itself is invisible, does that mean his personification is as well? Obviously, taking it as the idea that it is Death..."

Geoff nods, obviously having been over this a couple of times in his head already. "Apparently, he has a pet duck as well." His lips twitch a little at the absurdity of the statement, but he mostly manages to keep a straight face.

Elizabeth bites her lip, trying not to giggle. "Wow. That's something you don't read in the literature about the Grim Reaper."

"Can you imagine what the response would be to someone writing that up? 'The personification of Death exists as an invisible high school student who has a fondness for writing poetry and is the proud owner of a pet duck.' I don't think it's a real duck, either. I think it's some sort of possessed toy duck."

[ooc: I can't believe I'm suddenly considering doing some of this writing Geoff claims he's working on.]

"Market it as fantasy, and it'd probably do pretty well," Elizabeth replies, grinning. "After all, The Lord of the Rings is rather popular and that's based around hobbits and a quest for a ring. Or something."

[ooc: *snickers* Heee!]

"I have no idea what a 'hobbit' is, but I suppose I could...market it, as you say, in that way. And quest stories are always popular, no matter what the actual subject. Hm. It's an idea." He grins appreciatively.

[ooc: And did I get this notification? No, I did not. *scowl*]

"Actually, I'm not that sure myself," Elizabeth confesses. "That trilogy are some of the few classics that I've not read. I've tried,s several times, but just can't get into them. They made films of them too recently and I've not watched those either."

"Anything can start out as an idea," she says, nodding and grinning.

"You have a very good point, Elizabeth," he says, chuckling. "I'll keep that in mind when I go home -- or go wherever it is I end up next. What are your plans for after you finish school?"

"This school? More school," Elizabeth laughs. "CJ's suggested that I attend Berkley, which is her alma mater."
