Professor Chaucer's Office Hours for Tuesday

The professor is sitting with his feet up on his desk, reading a book. If one looked closely at it, they might find that it's a copy of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice.

[Professor Chaucer likes coffee. How come no one ever brings him coffee?]

"Well if your work in my class is any indication, I have no doubt of it. I don't suppose I could convince you to pick up a poetry class next term?"

"Thank you," she smiles, before looking slightly nervous. "Uh, poetry? As in writing it?"

Laughing, Geoff nods. "Yes, Elizabeth, as in writing it. And don't give me a line about not being any good at writing, or at poetry, because that's the whole point of taking a class. What's the challenge if you only study things you're good at?"

"But there's a difference between taking a class in something you're bad at, and taking a class in something you're horrific at!" she exclaims.

"The class is for beginners, Elizabeth. Although I may offer an advanced section if there's interest. But I strongly suspect you're not as bad at it as you think you are."

Elizabeth looks at him slightly skeptically. "Can I just say that I'll see?" she asks. "I'm planning on seeing what Dr. Grissom has to offer as well this semester, and it might clash with something else."

He laughs. "Of course you can. From the sounds of it, there are all kinds of interesting classes being taught here. I've been half-tempted to sit in on one or two myself."

Elizabeth grins and nods. "There certainly are. And all the teachers really seem to know their stuff and want to be here as well, which is always an added bonus. I hated having teachers who were only teaching until they found something better to do."

"Are you kidding me? I can't believe they're actually letting me teach! Any day now I expect someone to sit up and say 'What were we thinking?' and send Rover after me."

Elizabeth laughs. "To be honest, I don't see that happening any time soon," she says. "And I'm not just saying that to suck up to you."

"I wouldn't expect it of you, Elizabeth. I have a feeling you're usually pretty straightforward with people. Which I like. So I appreciate the compliment. And I'll return it with one -- you won't have any problem getting into any of the classes you want here, and I doubt you'll have any problem getting into whatever college you want to study at later."

Elizabeth blushes slightly. "Thank you, Geoff. I also appreciate the compliment."

"It's only the truth." He grins to ease her embarassment. "Would you believe this is the longest conversation I've had with anyone in my office hours since I came here?"

Elizabeth checks down at her watch. "Actually, I would," she grins. "And to think I only came in to check two things!"

"I haven't kept you from something important, am I? It can be hard to get me to shut up once I get going," he says, grinning back at her.

"No, not at all," she replies. "Biology was my last lesson of the day, so all you're keeping me from is homework and whatever chaos is lying await in the dorms," she laughs.

"Well, I suppose I can always write you a note about the homework," he laughs. "'Please excuse Elizabeth from not completing her homework, as she brought me coffee and I talked her ear off all afternoon.'"

Elizabeth laughs. "To be honest, I don't think I've got much to do and it's mostly reading. So I think I'll be fine, even having spent all this time talking with you."

"I'm glad to hear it, then. I don't to get in trouble for tempting students away from their studies. What are you reading?"

"Well, The Life of Cuthbert for a start," she grins. "And I'm also got a couple of books on nonverbal communication, which I'm brushing up for CJ's class."

[ooc: You have no idea how long Daniel and Janet have ended up playing for. OMG - I think weeks were involved!]

"Good to hear it! And see, CJ's is one of the classes I'd love to sit in on. I wonder if she'd mind very much." He thinks about the idea for a minute. "I think I should ask her. I hear her classes are pretty interesting."

Elizabeth nods. "They're great," she says. "And I think you should. I'm sure she won't make you contribute or anything if you don't want to." She grins.

"Oh, I've never had any trouble speaking in front of an audience," he answers, laughing. "I really do think I will. And maybe one or two of the others, if the professors don't mind. Get to know what else is going on."

[ooc: Off for a couple of hours, so back to SP!]

Elizabeth grins. "Yeah, same here," she says. "It will be nice to see you there. Who else are you thinking of sitting in on?"
