The Library Is Open (11/29/05)

The Library Salamander has decided his name is "Dante". This was decided by incinerating all the other options.

The librarian is working on paperwork today. Annoy at own risk.

Janet had finally shoved the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream back in the freezer, shelved the genetics book, and made her way into the library unnoticed. "Hey, Lockheed," she said as she slipped behind the Collections Desk.

Lockheed was moderately offended by the scorch marks crack. He was a domesticated dragon. There would be no scorch marks unless he decided there would be scorch marks! And he didn't do that very often.

But now he had a more pressing problem. Being a dragon meant that he had some difficulty writing with a pen. Then he saw Janet and looked at her pleadingly.

Janet saw Lockheed looking at the pen and then looking at her. "You have no opposable thumbs, do you?" She glances over at Methos, then whispers to Lockheed. "Pay no attention to him. He thinks he's funny sometimes."

Janet picks up the pen and turns the application around. "Okay, name, we've got." She fills in 'Lockheed' on the first line. "Is Lockheed your full name?"

Lockheed was relieved. Between this and the cookies she had previously given him, Janet was now one of his favorite people ever.

He nodded to the question about his name.

"You're in luck. It's a fairly easy form." Janet grinned at Lockheed. She was going to have to introduce him to chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream some time.

"Okay, so you're not faculty, staff, or a student--" She frowned at the form and crossed out the 'class of' line, since Lockheed wasn't a student. "I think 'Special Assistant' works here, don't you?"

/Well, technically I did teach the one day. And I was paid in cookies. But officially...?/

Lockheed nodded. "Special Assistant" was fine by him.

"Oh, good," said Janet. "Because I don't think teaching for one day qualifies you as faculty."

"Next line. Shoot. What room do you live in?" asked Janet. She frowned at the application. "Let's narrow this down: You're on the first floor, right? With the Tick?"

Lockheed did have fingery digits on his paws, so this part was easy. He held out one digit, then four, then one again.

Janet really, really wanted to get as close a look as she could at the joint structure on Lockheed's paws.

She settled for writing '141' on the application.

"That part was easier than I thought. Luckily, it's a fairly simple application. Species? We'll go with dragon. Sound good?"

She also resisted the urge to ask if Lockheed knew what the Latin name for his species was.

Considering that Lockheed was an alien dragon [OOC: Yes. Alien dragon. *shrug*], there was probably no Latin name given for his species yet. Strange fact.

Lockheed nodded again in response to Janet's question.

Janet was very annoyed that her comment didn't post.

"Okay, last thing we need is a signature," said Janet in a very pared-down version of what she'd come up with. She studied Lockheed for a minute. "Again your lack of opposable thumbs stymies us. Would you mind doing a pawprint if I helped you clean the ink off after?"

OOC: Oh, yes, I know Lockheed. :)

What about the missed closed strike tag? Not too happy about that either, I'd guess. :)

If Lockheed hadn't just deemed Janet one of his favorite people, he probably would have argued against the pawprint. But he could suck up his pride here and not leave inky pawprints all over the library.

He held out his front right paw.

[OOC: Chris Claremont was on so much crack back in those days...]
