"If you don't mind tanking your GPA, you should sign up for cooking class next semester with Anders and I. I'm so bad I may even make you look good. Especially if you've already managed edible."
She leaned forward and whispered, "I once almost burned down my kitchen making waffles. Next day, I got four fire extinguishers."
"Is buying a house good?" Sam's knee-jerk response was that she wouldn't want someone to just buy her a house out of the blue. "I don't know your mom well enough to visualize her reaction."
"Ooh. You have skillz," Rory noted, her brows shooting up. "I can actually make waffles on my laptop now, thanks to Bridge, and I can do coffee and Pop Tarts. Not much else, though."
"And...well, I think Mom wanted Luke to maybe consult her on such a big decision. I mean, he meant well, trying to surprise her and all, but..." Rory shrugged helplessly. "I got out of there before I could gauge whether she was actually upset, though."
"You can make waffles on your laptop? Doesn't the batter get the keys all sticky?" Sam resisted the urge to go pawing through Rory's stuff in search of the laptop, even though she was practically dead of curiosity. She'd ask Bridge about it in Cyborg Theory. She could wait. Mostly.
"No, I can see wanting to be consulted," Sam assured her, "but I can also see that it some people might see it as a romantic gesture."
"No, it converts, so the computer part itself is seperate from the waffle iron," Rory explained. "Bridge didn't tell me how it works, really, but I think that's what happens with it."
"Exactly," she agreed. "Luke was trying to be all sweet and romantic and stuff, and it backfired. Well, kind of. I'm guessing it did, anyway, knowing my mom."
"Huh," Sam replied, already slightly distracted by trying to figure out how that would work. "I'll have to ask him, I guess."
"He should still get points for the gesture, though," Sam nodded. "Guys start out slightly handicapped with this kind of thing, just because they're male. I hope they work it out, though."
"Ask him to fix something of yours," Rory suggested. "Not that you would need him to, but I think he sticks little surprises like that in all of them."
"And they will. He's done stuff like this before - so, on one hand, he should've learned from his mistakes...but I also know my mom won't hold it against him too much."
"He's my partner on an assignment for Cyborg Theory, so I can always ask him about it while we're working."
"It's good that they understand each other. They must love each other a lot, huh?" She was very much not thinking about her own moron and the stuff they'd done to and for each other over the years as she said this.
