"Ooh, I like you already," says Jenny, grinning at him. She holds out her hand. "Jenny Calendar. I'm subbing for Abnormal Psych now that someone wised up and fired Drusilla's not teaching any more. Got a library card application I can get my greedy little hands on?"

Parker leans forward, surprised and delighted. "They fired Crazy Squid Lady? YAAAAY!"

"Crazy Squid Lady?" askes Methos curiously. He rummages behind the counter. "Since Janet has mysteriously disappeared, I think the run-down is blue-or-black ink, fill out everything completely, and no using bodily fluids -- yours or anyone else's -- on the application."

"Professor Drusilla, the nutjob psych professor. The one who hypnotized Broots into an evening of manic-depressive dementia? Who beat up Marty Blank?" Parker rolled her eyes. "Do you pay attention to *anything* but the books around here?"

"He's calmed down a lot since then," Parker points out. "I think Angela helped." She glares at Adam, then rolls her eyes. "By the way, I'm on the Student Council too. Academic Affairs Coordinator. Just so you know. If I organize a field trip to the Library of Congress, we might ask you to help."

"Hey, do you think we could talk the administration into a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?" Parker asks.

"Drusilla managed to acquire herself a nickname," said Jenny. "A rather creative one, too. It sure beats 'that crazy vampire,' that's for sure."

"The little red-headed girl I saw vanish into a back office with Charlie Brown?" She shrugs one shoulder at the librarian--apparently he was only there for the flirting--and takes the application. "You should consider an online form for the applications that feeds directly into a secure database," says Jenny. "Then you don't have to worry about what color ink is used." She clears her throat. "Or bodily fluids."

"I shudder at the thought of what some of these students could do with a computer, a net connection, and a centralized database. Even a secure one."

"Tell me about it," says Jenny, laughing. "The last place I taught, one of my students hacked into City Hall on the school computers. Multiple times. On the other hand, I'm pretty good with computers myself. So think about it. I'll lend a hand."

"Heh." Parker tries to look innocent, with little success. "Gosh. That would be... bad."

I was wonderin' why we hadn' computerized the card catalogue yet.

Jenny grins widely. "Yeah, I guess somebody thought she wasn't a good role model or something. Gosh, can't imagine why!"

"Pfftttt." Parker waves that away, and offers Jenny a hand to shake. "Parker. You have just brought me the best news I've had in two days, thank you! And Dr. Pierson forgot to mention that you can't use the words 'Chosen One' on the application-- it annoys Janet."

"Nice to meet you, Parker," says Jenny, shaking her hand. "Chosen One? Given that I'm not the Chosen One--and the term itself is pretty singular--how the heck did it get so that no one can use it on their library application?"

"It might be singular, but people's use of it isn't. I think we had three or four people put it down on their library applications at the beginning of the term, and Janet got so she'd just rip up any application with those words on it." Parker rolled her eyes. "Anakin Skywalker, that Potter kid... I can't remember who the others were, but it was just ridiculous."

Jenny laughs. "I was thinking this place would be less weird than my last school. Guess I was wrong!"

If it's all right with you, I'm holdin' back on this one until I see how the squid reacts.

Parker looked dismayed. "Oh, no. Sunshine." She bit her lip. "Who's going to get the squid out of the basement?"

This is what I'm sayin'. Don' get me wrong, Crazy Squid Lady should not be teachin' students, but...well, I'm not about to volunteer to wrangle Sunshine.
