Having just come from Abnormal Psych, Jack pokes his head in the Doctor's office. "Hi. I don't seem homocidal to you today, do I?"

[Ten looks up over the rims of his glasses.] Homicidal, no. Perennial wiseass, yes. Come on in, Jack.

I can live with that. What's up? [He wisely does not add, "...Doc".]

Not much. [He smiles.] You're here to tell me what you want to do for your final project.

Right. Er. I forgot to think about it this week. [Jack props his elbows up on the edge of Ten's desk and thinks.] I think... I want to explore the concept of alternate universes more. Sam Carter and I were talking about it some. I'm... less freaked out on the topic of my own possible alternates and/or futures, but I want to understand it. Do you think that would work?

Understandably so. Want some coffee? [Ten looks suitably concerned and pours two mugs full regardless.] And yes, that could be a good project for you. You just have to understand that getting too emotionally implicated in your project could skew the results. You'd have to check yourself whenever possible.

((For the record, I'm assuming that Ten's now seen the message from the Time Agency.))

((I agree. I figure he got it from CJ and played it.))

Coffee. Yes, please. I kind of want that... need to check myself. I want to get this on an intellectual level. [He thinks for a moment.] If I wrap it up in a report, say, "This is what I understand about it"... I think I can let it go.

[Ten quietly hands him one of the mugs.] Maybe then this is definitely the right choice for you, Jack. If you think you can do it, I'll let you go ahead. And if you want help, you know where to ask.

[Sips from the mug and closes his eyes briefly in appreciation.] Thanks. I'll probably take you up on that offer of help.

Jack... [Ten takes a swallow of coffee.] Are you going to be all right? Do you need anything?

[The corner of Jack's mouth kicks up in a smile.] Yeah, I am. I mean, I'm still kind of floored by the fact that everything I've been planning for as long as I can remember has gone poof. But... if I hadn't talked to CJ on Tuesday, I'd probably still be trying to figure out how to placate the Time Agency. And thanks to you... I don't have to give up my dreams. Just my plans. I can live with that.

Jessica entered the office. "Ah, professor, you told us to discuss project ideas with you? I was considering writing something concerning the way prophecy affects the future."

Lady Jessica. Do sit down if you like. What sort of prophecies did you intend to look at in regards to this project?

Sonia knocks on the door to the Doctor's office.

Ms Belmont, do come in.

Sonia smiles and enters his office. "Good afternoon, sir. You wanted to speak to us?"

I just wanted to hear from you about your final project. [He smiles at her.] Coffee? Tea?

"Ah- tea, please? Thank you." She hesitates a moment before continuing.

"About the project, sir...there's something in particular I'd like to ask you about. I have an idea, but I'm not quite sure how to approach it. And it's...personal. Erm."

[The Doctor pours her some tea.] You can close the door if you like, Ms Belmont. And I should warn you that being too personally attached to a project can cause difficulty.

((By the way, I did skim your paper. Thanks so much for actually writing it, means a lot to me.))

She closes the door, then takes the tea. "Thank you. And...I understand that it might cause some difficulty. But this is something I've been interested in, and trying to understand for a long time now."

She takes a breath, then asks another question. "Vhat do you know about the ability of magic to alter and warp time? And I know this is a ridiculously broad question, but...anything vill be helpful."

[OOC: Oh, you're welcome! It was actually..um, fun. And something about her I've been trying to figure out for a while. *curses fandom for lack of canon*

EDIT: And maybe this time, LJ will take the whole comment...]

[He watches her closely.] That depends on how one defines 'magic'. Any being can do certain things that seem impossible, if they are changed enough. Therefore...in essence, magic is only another kind of technology. A more physical and innate one. And thus, in some ways, magic can alter time as much as the being can manage. As much as it is knowable.

She nods. "And what about Chaos? And I mean Chaos embodied- something that is in its very nature against every law of physics- the direct opposition to Order? Something like that could affect and warp time, yes?"

There is a point to all of this; she's still not sure how to get to it, yet.

In my view, chaos is an element. Time is an element. And order is an element. All of these things play off each other and create a balance, which we sentients muck up. If someone were to control--to make chaos into an embodied Chaos--one of the elements too greatly, that could affect and warp time.
