Sonia smiles and enters his office. "Good afternoon, sir. You wanted to speak to us?"

I just wanted to hear from you about your final project. [He smiles at her.] Coffee? Tea?

"Ah- tea, please? Thank you." She hesitates a moment before continuing.

"About the project, sir...there's something in particular I'd like to ask you about. I have an idea, but I'm not quite sure how to approach it. And it's...personal. Erm."

[The Doctor pours her some tea.] You can close the door if you like, Ms Belmont. And I should warn you that being too personally attached to a project can cause difficulty.

((By the way, I did skim your paper. Thanks so much for actually writing it, means a lot to me.))

She closes the door, then takes the tea. "Thank you. And...I understand that it might cause some difficulty. But this is something I've been interested in, and trying to understand for a long time now."

She takes a breath, then asks another question. "Vhat do you know about the ability of magic to alter and warp time? And I know this is a ridiculously broad question, but...anything vill be helpful."

[OOC: Oh, you're welcome! It was actually..um, fun. And something about her I've been trying to figure out for a while. *curses fandom for lack of canon*

EDIT: And maybe this time, LJ will take the whole comment...]

[He watches her closely.] That depends on how one defines 'magic'. Any being can do certain things that seem impossible, if they are changed enough. Therefore...in essence, magic is only another kind of technology. A more physical and innate one. And thus, in some ways, magic can alter time as much as the being can manage. As much as it is knowable.

She nods. "And what about Chaos? And I mean Chaos embodied- something that is in its very nature against every law of physics- the direct opposition to Order? Something like that could affect and warp time, yes?"

There is a point to all of this; she's still not sure how to get to it, yet.

In my view, chaos is an element. Time is an element. And order is an element. All of these things play off each other and create a balance, which we sentients muck up. If someone were to control--to make chaos into an embodied Chaos--one of the elements too greatly, that could affect and warp time.

(([pats the mun]))

She nods, clarity reading on her face. "That's what I thought. And it all begins to make sense..." The last comment is almost a whisper, and she looks back up to the Doctor.

"I'm sure you know, I...I'm not from around here, in any sense. And vun of the reasons I first signed up for this class vas the hope of possibly finding out why- why I was here, and..."

She stops, and runs a hand over her face. "I'm sorry, I'm rambling. I do have a point, somewhere."

I read your paper, Ms Belmont. [The Doctor sips his own coffee, which is now cold. His face is sympathetic.] And I can understand your motivations--there are several students with similar ones here at Fandom High. Please continue.

A small smile. "Right. And I suppose that's one of the things that's made this easier- realizing now that I'm not alone."

She pauses again. "I think...my resurrection, and possibly my being here in the present, is an act of Order to restore balance. The castle I've fought in twice now, that is Chaos embodied. One may enter and spend two days fighting, only to emerge and find a weeks, even months have passed. One room might be filled with daylight; pass through a door, and it's the deep of night."

She takes a sip of her tea, also grown cold. "Vhat I'd like to do, if you approve, is look for other instances where time might have been warped for similar purposes. I suppose...this might even be related to the predestination paradox. I'm...still working it all out. But does that make sense?"

[He nods at her.] I'm glad that you have such an interest in finding other instances of this occurence. Are you going to look in other worlds? Or are you going to merely stick to your own? Other places may have different rules regarding how time flows...the basics are the same, but one can't be certain what comes into effect.

"I definitely vant to investigate further into this world. But I don't see vhy that can't be expanded to others. Really, the only reason I didn't think of it before was because I didn't know there were any others." She grins. "But...vould you be able to help me, if I did this? Because I have no idea vhere I'd find research on this topic- for other worlds, I mean."

I'm sure I could dig something up for you, Ms Belmont. Either in the library, or in my own collection. [Maybe Nine's right, he is still a sucker for blondes.] If you're willing to put plenty of effort into the project, I'm willing to help you.

Her tone is completely serious. "Absolutely. This is not something I could do half-heartedly." She gives him a small smile. "Thank you. For listening to me, and... vell. Anything you can do vill be greatly appreciated."

It's my pleasure to assist, Ms Belmont. [He finishes his coffee.] Only through knowledge do we succeed.

"And knowledge must come through action." She smiles, and sets her empty cup back on his desk. "I've probably taken enough of your time, now. Thank you again, Doctor."
