Methos steps out of Special Collections with a bemused look on his face. Under one arm is a book. In the other hand is a creature that appears to be... on fire. He looks up and meets Janet's eyes. "It's not a newt. It's a salamander."
Glad to hear i--[He notices her expression change and turns to see Methos coming out of Special Collections (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fandomhigh/365557.html?thread=17299957#t17299957).] What the hell?
Methos smiles at seeing his boyfriend Ten, and holds up the salamander. "Salamander. Lives in fire. I, uh, don't know why it's not burning my hand. I do know that creatures that live in fire probably shouldn't live in a library. Books, paper, etc."
[Ten runs a hand through his hair, making it more mussed up than it already is, and ventures a bit closer, squinting at the salamander.] Oh no. So what are you going to do with the wee bastard? [He looks up at Methos.] And how did it take you nearly a week to catch it?
I don't know. I suppose he... she... it could be a pet. [Methos frowns at it thoughtfully.] Nearly a week? Hardly. I first saw it this morning when I went in to shelve books.
Having handed her delivery over to janet, Vala turns to leave... and sees him. Damn. Damndamndamndamn... She takes a deep breath, puts on her happiest smile and greets him. "Hey, YoYo!"
You'd have to keep it in a glass terrarium or something. [Then he pauses and stares at Methos.] Adam...it's the 16th. You've been gone for ages. We've been worried sick. I was just about to go in and look for you.
[It's obvious that Ten's now trying to work out the temporal effects that could allow such an occurrence, and failing miserably.]
He didn't see her coming, hadnt expected to run into her here. Not like this. His eyes rove over her, making sure she's in one piece and finally the tighteness between his shoulders that has been there ever since he woke up alone goes away.
"You're back," he says softly, tilting his head as he has no clue what he's supposed to do next. This isn't how he imagined her coming back. He'd have thought himself a bit higher on her priority list.
"Yeah," she says, unnecessarily. "I got back in this morning. Figured you'd be out running and I had a couple of quick errands to do...." She trails off, looking uncomfortable, still desperately trying to read the mood of his response.
"Didn't go running, I slept in." He didn't dream for the first time in weeks. His fingers burn to reach out and touch her, but something is stopping him.
"Oh." She realizes they're standing there like total strangers... or worse like uncomfortable ex-es. She doesn't want to think it could have come to that, so she takes a deep breath and offers: "I missed you, YoYo."
Hey. [Methos puts down the book and steps to Ten's side, putting the hand not holding the salamander on his arm.] I'm sorry. I... didn't mean to be gone so long? At least this time I don't have to beg candy bars off of you, right?
