Study Hall -- Wednesday, November 2nd

Sarah's at the front desk, staring blankly as she leans over a notebook and clutches her head. Her mind seems to be elsewhere, and it's probably a bad idea to talk to her.

The puppies are back, sleeping in the basket in front of the desk and available for people to cuddle for comfort.

"So you think... what? You should've been there to? Or that you should've known that Kitty would meet someone who'd kill her in an alley?" Parker shakes her head. "Gilmore, stop it. You're just..." She stops talking, her face falling.

"I shouldn't have let her go off by herself. I don't think I could've defended her against whoever got her, but...I had Vladdie and Logan with me. I mean, while Vladdie's not much of a threat, he does have a nasty bite, I'd think, and...well, I just think that if she'd stayed with us she would've been safe." Rory bites her lip and looks like she wants to cry...but is too tired.

"Maybe. And maybe you'd be dead too. Blank says he was gassed, that could've been you. I think he's lucky he's not dead as well." Parker sighs, and takes Rory's hand, and gives it a squeeze. "I know it's easier to blame yourself than to think about how scary this is, about what we don't know. But try, okay? It isn't down to you, I swear."

Rory smiles weakly, and squeezes Parker's hand in return. "I know. How's Marty, anyway? The last time I talked to him was when we still thought Kitty was just missing. And he thought he had..." She trails off, unable to finish the thought.

"He's -- grim, I think that's the best word. He still thinks he," Parker rolls her eyes, "You know. I don't see how, myself. Especially since no one's ... found her. It's way too complicated." She grimaces. "I wish he hadn't told anyone but the police that he was there. This really doesn't look good."

Rory blanches. "Who else did he tell? Other than you, I mean. I saw him there, so I already knew..."

"You, Alanna, Geoff Chaucer, his new therapist-- at least there's confidentiality there-- and I think we can assume Angela. That's still too many once the police start asking questions." Parker studies Rory. "Did you tell anyone that Marty was there?"

Rory frowns. "Yes, I told someone. You're not going to like it, though."

Parker looks like she wanted to take the puppy back. "You told the boyfriend, right? God, Gilmore... He already hates Blank, for reasons which I don't even get entirely. Nor do I truly care. Do you, can you, ask him *not* to tell anyone else? Please?"

Rory nods. "I already told him to keep it under wraps. And he doesn't hate Marty at all. He just...he had a similar problem with him as with you," she shrugs.

"Marty and Logan are just, like, too much testosterone for the room, or something. I don't think Logan would think..." Angela's voice trails off. "And, anyhow, he knows what it feels like to be suspected of something you didn't do, right?"

Rory nods. "Yeah, I wasn't going to mention it, but...yeah, he's been very much in the same position as Marty before. Except there was way, way more evidence pointing at Logan. But it all still turned out okay - just like it will with Marty."

Angela gives Rory a tight smile. "I hope you're right."

[OOC: Rory told Angela what happened with Lilly, right? Or am I going psychic?]

Rory sighs. "It'll be fine. It has to be."

[ooc: Rory had her Aaron Echolls=Logan's dad omg! moment in front of Angela, as I recall. And it's not unfair to assume that after Rory told Angela that, Ange went and found out about the stuff on the bridge.]

"And in the absolute, we're-not-thinking-of-it-yet, but just to be sure, worst-case scenario, I can get him a really, really good lawyer. But it's not going to come to that," Parker says, looking determined. "They'll find who really did it, and this will all be a bad memory."

Parker makes a face. "Personality conflict. Or, he thinks I'm a bitch and I don't think much better of him, so...."

She sighs. "I hope he listens to you."

After Angela's done speaking, she says, "Give Angela the puppy. I think she needs it more than you now."

"He did tell me," Angela says, dropping into a seat. She looks as tired as Rory or Parker. "I just ... I have no idea what to do with any of this."

"Hi." Parker scooted over to give her some room. "There's nothing *to* do yet, I suppose. Which makes it worse."

"I'm not even sure there ever will be anything for us to do. I mean, at least not without having to talk to Bristow again." She buries herface in her hands. "Things look really bad for Marty, don't they? I mean, I feel like a moron for even caring about that when a girl is dead, but ... if I didn't love him I don't know what I'd think."

"The Dean's sure to be involved eventually, somehow. Kitty was a student here. I'm betting on curfews at the least."

Parker looks down at her hands. "Yes, it does look bad for him. But that's a long, long way from saying he did it. Seriously. Whoever *gassed* him, that's who's responsible. If he even did anything!" she adds, keeping her voice low but intense. "Here. Rory, give her the puppy."

Rory frowns, and hands Angela the puppy.

"Does Marty think that I think he...you know?"

Angela takes the puppy, scritching absently under its chin. "Min's gonna get jealous," she coos.

She pitches her voice lower. "Yeah, if he was gassed and ... did something, that's who's responsible. I just hope a jury would believe it. But good lawyer, right?"

She frowns. "The thing is, if he was gassed and as crazy as it sounds like he was, how would he have gotten it together enough to hide the body? That doesn't make sense."

She turns to Rory. "I'm not sure what he thinks. I think he's afraid that he might have, more than anything."

Rory nods. "That's a really, really good point about hiding the body. Which is something I'd hoped I'd never have to say."

She sighs. "I need to talk to him. He's going to have enough people suspecting him without his friends turning their backs on him, too. Which is what I imagine he probably thinks I'm doing."

"Exactly. Fear gas freak-out is one thing. Hiding a body? Something else."

Parker looks at her watch. "I have to go. You guys, come find me later, okay?"

"God. That's-- gotta be rough on him." Parker shakes her head, then looks at her watch. "Whoops. Have to open the Library. Come find me there later, if either of you needs to talk." She pats the puppy on the head again, then smiles sadly at Rory and Angela as she walks out.
