NEWSPAPER MEETING

Note outside the cafeteria door:

For those who didn't see the edit, the newspaper crew meeting is now in the Journalism classroom.

William sits on one of the desks in the classroom, waiting a little anxiously for others to arrive. He holds onto his notebook tightly.

Rory plops down in a seat beside Veronica and chuckles.

"Ooh, neato. One of the few times being punctual has actually made me feel powerful."

Veronica smiles at Rory.

"We'll have to go back to that restaurant. The food was amazing."

Rory returns the smile.

"It really was. And the atmosphere was nice, too."

"Agreed"

[ooc: i gotta say - i've had a plot bunny for AGES where Rory, Chloe & Veronica work on a newspaper together somewhere... ]

[OOC: Really? It never occurred to me. But then again, I only just got into VM while watching the reruns on UPN this summer, and I've never watched Smallville....]

[OOC: Well... I only got into VM this summer too... when ~~the crack dealer~~

trollprincess made me copies of the eps. But Veronica & Chloe are so much alike its frightening. And, as a GG fan, I thought Rory would get along well with them.]

[OOC: Yay! I actually kind of hate Rory lately - as in, latly on GG - but I figured I might as well play her back when she was nice and not all obnoxious. But I agree - I've always thought Veronica and Rory would get along, and if Chloe's just like Veronica, then yay again!]

[OOC: I'll second the Rory-being-obnoxious right now sentiment.]

"Hey," Rory says, suddenly grabbing Veronica's arm and looking exhausted, "I'm really not feeling good all of a sudden. I think I'm going to head off - would you mind letting me know later if I miss anything important?"

(OOC: I have a paper due tomorrow morning IRL, so I need to go work on that. Bleh.)

Veronica looks concerned.

"Not at all. I'll drop off the notes tomorrow and make sure you're okay."

[OOC: good luck with the paper!]

[OOC: That's why it's so amusing to have Chloe and Veronica as roommates, because they really are frighteningly alike as characters *g*]

[OOC: Absolutely - I was assuming you knew who Veronica was...]

Otto sits down a little shyly at Rory's other side.

"Er, hello? Ah. You are zer girl on yearbook, yes?"

Rory grins at the nice-looking boy.

"Yeah, that's me. I'm Rory...you were interested in photography, right?"

Otto breaks into a cheerful and rather pointed grin. "Oh yes!" he says happily. "Fascinated! So I am planning to do photography for zhis und for zer yearbook, und possibly start a club as vell."

Rory is thrilled with his enthusiasm.

"That's wonderful! I'm so glad we'll have you around on staff. Okay," she says, shifting her eyes downward slightly, looking up at Otto through her lashes, "but I have to ask - where are you from originally?"

Otto's grin fades very slightly.

"Ubervald," he says. "On zer Discvurld. Not many people here know of zer place, I haff found."

Rory notes his discomfort and immediately feels bad.

"Oh, I'm sorry - I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable. I'm sure it's a lovely place - I just was curious because your accent is so distinctive."

Otto shrugs and grins again. "No, it is fine. It is just-- I am not used to people asking about my background vithout some bit of... suspicion attached. I am learning zhat things are different here."

"Oh..." Rory has no idea what she should interpret from that, but decides to drop it. "Ha, well, I'm from Connecticut, and people always tend to think I really like the Patriots and stuff...." she finishes weakly.

"Sorry to interrupt, but we met the other day."

She smiles and tilts her head slightly.

"I'm Veronica and I'm into photography, too. Don't forget to let me know if you start a photography club."

Otto turns to her and his grin widens slightly.

"Yes, I remember. I am just getting around zer papervurk, I think, und zhen I vill be starting it. I vill be sure to let you know."

He considers for a moment.

"Do you think ve vill be collaborating on things? I do not know if you are also doing yearbook as vell, for example."

"Actually I am. So it sounds like we're the school photographers."

"Ah." Otto looks a little overwhelmed. "Zer only vuns? In zhat case I am not sure ve haff enough for a club."

"Well, I don't know if we're the only ones. But we seem to keep bumping into each other."

Veronica thinks for a moment.

"We should post a flyer and see if anyone else would be interested. I have a feeling there are a lot of interesting photographic opportunities around this place."
