Wesley was mainly preoccupied with shelving today. He kept finding the strangest collection of books misshelved, including books set on desert islands, how-to survival guides, voice training manuals, and books on how to compete with others for a potential romantic partner.

Wesley didn't know what the island was up to, but he was quite sure he should be wary.

"I'm sure you'll understand why I have a difficult time believing that," said Wesley, who was Educated in these matters.

Loki sniffed at him. "You hardly understand the actions of gods."

"Really now?"

"Really." Oh, he went there.

"Then I suppose seventeen years of study at the Watchers' Academy is immaterial?" Wesley said mildly.

Well. Probably, if you hadn't heard of it.

Well. There was that. "What is it they watch?"

And now Wesley was adjusting his collar. Like a pompous douche. You see what you did, Loki?

"The efforts of Slayers, or supernaturally-powered young women," Wesley informed him, "as they combat the forces of darkness. Including vampires, demons, and other mystical threats -- gods included."

A beat.

"On occasion."

There had been this one Slayer in the '60s. No one liked to talk about it.

"Oh." A beat. "How dull."

SORRY, WESLEY.

Wesley made a small, scandalized noise. "Pardon me?"

"I am certain you will soon find a far more interesting and helpful path in life!" Was that a curse? WAS IT? DAMN IT, LOKI.

Another noise! A noise of scandal.

"I'll have you know that I've -- in my home world, being a Watcher is -- " Sigh. Sigh sigh sigh. "Well. I suppose I have."

DON'T MAKE HIM SAY IT, LOKI, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.

"Oh? Is what?" SORRY, WESLEY. YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO HIM.

"I'll have you know," he said, with considerable pride, "that I'm a rogue demon hunter now."

LOKI, WHY???

"What's a rogue demon?"

OF COURSE.

Wesley gave a long-suffering sigh.

"The demons themselves aren't -- oh, never mind."

"Are you certain? I am quite intrigued now!"

"I meant," Wesley explained painstakingly slowly, "that I myself am working autonomously."

God, Loki.

Indeed he was!

"From a demon hunting organization." As Wesley was not a gifted, young woman.

"Precisely."

WHY DID PEOPLE ALWAYS GET THAT WRONG?

"Is there a great calling for such individuals?"

"There is, in fact," Wesley confirmed. In some circles, anyway. "But. Regardless. I was merely explaining to you that, all things considered, I am more than qualified to make assessments on the actions of gods."

So nyah.

"You have only shown experience with demons, actually," Loki pointed out. Helpfully.

"But training in mythology and the affairs of various systems of gods were part of my preparation," Wesley reminded him.

Or told him, rather. It wasn't so much a reminder when he only assumed that Loki would know that.

"With the... Watchers was it again?" Stop being a dick now, Loki.

Loki, that was what was called a 'douche move.'

Wesley bristled slightly. "Yes."

Loki smiled kindly at him. "I am certain they taught you all they knew on the subject."

Here, Loki. Have a withering look. It was free!

"Teleporting witches, you said?" he sighed finally, coming out from behind the desk and heading in the direction of a nearby shelf.

"If you please!"
