Philosophy 101- Week #2- Period 4

The students were back in the theater-looking Danger Shop today, where Jaye was standing in front of the screen. "So I decided why give up on a time-honored tradition? Before Lex hits play this week, I want everyone to go around the room, tell me your name, and whether or not you completely ignored the class description and/or thought that was a joke."

She was curious.

"And then we'll do a movie. What can I say, people inspired me this weekend."

Name, and whether or not you thought you were actually signing up for a Philosophy class.

"Lex Luthor," he said. "And I was kinda expecting a philosophy class to involve philosophy of some kind."

As opposed to horrible movies.

"And what would you philosophize about the fact that it doesn't?" Jaye asked.

"William Murdoch," he introduced himself. "And I suppose- well, I didn't look closely enough at the class description, is the gist of it," he admitted a little sheepishly. He'd seen the class title and jumped on that.

"Regret that now?" Jaye wondered.

"Petra West," Petra said, "and I was hoping the course description was true, but totally prepared to deal with an actual philosophy class if it turned out to be some kind of...philosophical problem or something."

Jaye paused. "I guess I could make it one," she said, really slowly, because wow did she so not want to do that.

"Tara Maclay," Tara said. "Uh ... movies are cool? But yeah, I thought the catalog description was a joke and this would be a ph-philosophy class for real."

"This is a school that lets Jamie Madrox teach. If there's a description like that, there's about a 98% chance that it's totally real," she said.

And paused. "Unless of course it is a description from one of his classes, in which case it'll probably also involve a puppet show or something."

"Sam LaCroix and I...signed up for this class in an attempt to be academic," Sam admitted with a shrug. "Guess I should be glad that my luck sucks as usual."

Wait. The mythical Sam LaCroix (yeah, yeah, several people had told her he was real, but Petra had had her doubts) was that guy she'd gotten in a fight with the weekend all the girls were guys and she was freaking?

Petra shot Sam a dirty look before turning her attention to her notebook. Right then.

She could not tell if that was him being snarky or not.

"You should. Be glad that your sucky luck means you get to do nothing for a class period," Jaye advised. "Which is pretty much what you do in a philosophy class anyway, except it usually involves more falling asleep."

"Shane Gooseman," Goose said, "and my guardian signed me up for this class, so he probably thought I'd be studying philosophy,"

"Bruce Wayne. I figured this was going to be an actual Philosophy class," Bruce said.

He'd definitely adjusted to the less than academic nature of the class, though. He hadn't even been too concerned about staying in the cave too late last night.

"Puck! And nope, I was kinda just scanning to see if there was a class that said 'movies' in it somewhere and you win," Puck said happily.

"I'm Rilla Blythe and I thought the class would impress my older brother," she admitted.

"Jacob Black," he said. "And I was rooting for the description being true so it was worth the wager."

"I'm Jeremy Darling," Jeremy introduced himself. "And I... was philosophical about whether this class was actually going to be about philosophy?"

Or something. He was being lazy.

"Jace Wayland," he started. "And, yes, I did think I was signing up for a Philosophy class."

Mostly to annoy people and get into arguments.

"Claudia Donovan. And it's my last semester, so I was totally down with a class that just existed to look good on my transcripts."

"Hi, I'm Matt," he said with a small wave. "I thought it was a philosophy class. Must have read the pamphlet wrong."

"Uh, I'm Billy Kaplan, and I figured the course description was right, because I've never seen one that wasn't, and I figured it'd look good on my transcript," he admitted.

"I thought this was philosophy; teach me not to read the course description." Scully shook her head. "Dana Scully."

"Richie Ryan. And I figured either the class name or description had to be wrong, but I wasn't gonna say anything. Movies work for me, and it still looks like a philosophy class if anybody's looking at my transcript."

"George Lass," she said, "and I was hoping the class description was true. I was gonna BS my way through philosophy if it wasn't, but movies are way better."
