Library [11/25]

Wesley was researching. This probably wasn't a huge surprise. Something strange was afoot, so he could be found at the front desk, poring over a stack of books several feet high and copying potentially relevant passages over into his notes. It was the Watcher way, damnit.

Ender came in ridiculously early, as was his wont with anything he did - especially something this crucial. He'd made a list of everything that had recurred in people's stories: the emptiness approaching, the people vanishing, the amnesia.

He took the list with him into the nearest aisle, and began to poke around. He wasn't planning to leave without some hint at an answer.

"Find anything yet?" Tara asked, once she spotted the aisle Ender was in. "I tried to research at the shop this morning? But it was, um. Distracting."

"A lot of guesses, a lot of potentials, but nothing solid or fully accurate," Ender admitted. "But we haven't covered much of the library yet."

[personal profile] life_inshadow 2011-11-25 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Tara glanced around the shelves with some trepidation. "Can we cover the whole library? Ever?"

[personal profile] endsthegame 2011-11-25 10:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think we can give it a spirited try," Ender said, and shot her a wry look. "Unless you're easily disheartened by a lot of books."

"Well, they're scary," Tara said sarcastically. "They're all full of words and ideas."

She gave a tiny smile. "I can start in history, and see if anything like this has happened? I'm, uh, a little burnt out on magic for now."
endsthegame: (is only mildly suspicious)

[personal profile] endsthegame 2011-11-26 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Ender nodded. "I'm a little leery to tackle the magic books without someone to translate for me," he said, "So let's make the history books a team effort." He held up his note. "See if we find anything matching this description."
life_inshadow: ([neu] are you kidding?)

[personal profile] life_inshadow 2011-11-26 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, if you end up over in magic, don't read out loud," Tara warned, then smiled apologetically at how absurd she was being. "Some spells can, uh ... kind of trigger themselves without intent. So, history."

She glanced at the note, nodded. "I can work with that."
endsthegame: (giving you a look)

[personal profile] endsthegame 2011-11-26 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll keep that in mind," Ender promised, and looked back towards the stacks labeled just that. "You start on the left, I'll start on the right."
life_inshadow: ([neu] this is what i think)

[personal profile] life_inshadow 2011-11-26 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
Tara bit her lip and nodded, then went over into the shelves.

She spent a long time reading about Roanoke Colony, but that was too different in the end from what they were seeing -- the colonists were remembered, even if they were never found. (And the theory some of them died and the rest married into Native tribes sounded far too logical to ignore.)

But then there was the Ninth Spanish Legion. She felt like that might be getting closer, and she pulled a book on it over to a reading stand.

Tara shut up the shop at lunchtime and finally made it to the library. Once she was done dealing with the Bieber bears, she'd settled into research mode and thought she had a few leads. Maybe.

This was confusing, but she'd do her best.

Things were definitely getting worse. Titans Tower was just gone, no record of it ever having existed; Central City municipal records held no trace of Wally West's identity.

On the other hand, nobody knew what Stephanie was talking about when she asked if the Penguin was up to anything lately. That would've been something, except Arkham was still standing, and Cass and Babs hadn't magically resumed existing.

To make matters worse, Stephanie had only found all this out by doing research in her dorm room after an attempt to go home for Thanksgiving left her stuck in an IKEA shipping warehouse in the boondocks of central California for five hours, then rerouted back to Fandom.

She had no idea what she was looking for, but she grabbed a stack of books more or less at random and settled down at a table to read, just for the sake of trying to do something.

Besides trying to make lists of the type of disappearances they were dealing with, that was. It wasn't just the good guys from her world any more, but there had to be some kind of pattern . . .

Oh look! A text message!

Rhodey's gone back home.

Why yes, yes he had spent the past few days in his lab, going through every record he could think of to prove his best friend had actually existed.

Stephanie totally didn't yelp when her phone buzzed on the table (yes, it was on vibrate mode).

Oh, no. And now they were both BFF-less, whee. Him too? There's more people gone at home for me, too.

Well, it was a library. She was just being a good person there.

SHIELD has also randomly stopped existing. Any word on a reason there?

Other than the normal reasons. like 'Superboy Prime punched reality in the face!' or 'Wanda Maximoff is crazy. Again.'

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-11-25 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
How much more normal did those reasons get? That sounded about right.

No idea. It's not just superheroes now, either. A couple of our big villains went poof too. Not enough of them, if you asked her.

She'd sent a text to Tim, earlier, asking him how Nightwing was doing and if there was any word of extra-weird stuff happening in Bludhaven.

The text she got back after she sent her reply to Tony:

Bludhaven? Making stuff up again? Very funny, Steph.

Oh, great. She texted Tony again.

And there goes the geography now, too. An entire city stopped existing.

Tony groaned, sitting back as he thought it over.

I'll adjust my search programs to look for that too.

Can your search programs give my ex a punch in the face for being a condescending jerk? Probably not, but she had to ask.

I could take down his network.

But that's possibly not what she really wanted.

Oh, so tempting.

Lovely as that sounds, with Oracle gone we need it. Never tell him I said that, though.

She had to smile.

That's sweet of you, though.

Always willing to help.

Just be glad he wasn't the type to find Tim anyway.

Do you think this means we'll all stop existing soon enough?

Re: Mod Your Library

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-11-26 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
Because they'd probably get along, and it would be scary?

If it keeps spreading? Probably.

Stephanie felt pretty bad about sending that text.

Which means we can't let it, right?

Of course. Fandom has a lot of smart people. We'll figure this out.

We always do. Stephanie was just going to cling to that notion, if it was okay with everyone.

Mind if I come over later anyway, though?
