Criminal Justice, Class 15

[OOC: For the project: Groups of 2 or go it solo. Pick up to three items from the ACME Catalog and come up with a Coyote-esque scheme to capture the Road Runner, preferably alive. It doesn't have to be too detailed or anything. Get it to me in voicemail, office hours, or class thread by Saturday (so I have some time to come up with results) and there will be a Danger Shop post on Sunday detailing the holographic simulation. Show up to that if you can/want to. Oh, and try to abide by the laws in your plan, both societal and natural. In other words, don't count on gravity to stop working all of a sudden (even though it could), and don't use a Disintegrater Gun to kill RR without him being armed. Class Info Post.]

*Tick stood at the podium as usual. He was wearing a tie. He looked slightly more professorly with it. Not that there was any way to go but up...*

Hello, class! Those of you who are new to Criminal Justice, we welcome you! Those of you who are old to this course, well, we welcome you as well, because you shouldn't be left out!

Now, remember, there's a project due this week. In the name of Fairness, I'm changing the due date slightly. Since I doubt anyone has started yet due to Parents Weekend, I'm going to give you until Saturday to hand me your plans to catch the fugitive. The ACME Catalog will be in the class until then, available for your use.

Okay, today's class is going to be a little light so you have time to work on your projects. This topic will be more of a "getting to know you" discussion. Of the three parts of the justice system - the police/superheroes, the courts, and corrections/jail - which one is of the most interest to you and why?

This week's extra credit is tied to the project. Choose at least one ACME product for your project that nobody else is using. This should give more credit to the people who are pushing the limits of their creativity and are trying more unique solutions. There are enough products that nobody should have trouble doing this.

Finally, on a personal note, I wanted to thank you all for the kind words in your evaluations. It's good to know that people dig the Justice Pie I'm serving. That the Coffee of Knowledge that I have been pouring is perfectly caffeinated! Indeed, the best part of waking up is Justice in your cup! Now if only I could figure out why there were twice as many evaluations as there should have been. I suspect... *Tick walked to the classroom door*, "that there might be people at the door listening in!" Tick swiftly opened the door to see nobody there.

"Huh. They're fast. Oh well, we'll get them eventually!"

Rory stays quiet in the back, nursing a cup of coffee and dutifully taking notes in spite of the fact that she looks like she hasn't slept, or been happy in the last day.

She's also studiously avoiding looking at Marty.

Anakin watched Rory, his forehead furrowed with concern.

He finally tossed a note onto her desk.

What's wrong?

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory read the note, and scribbled back a reply.

A friend of mine died.

She flung it over to Anakin, hoping it would land at least somewhere near his desk.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Anakin snagged the note out of the air and opened it.

The contents rocked him back in his seat.

He took a few deep breaths, then wrote back:

From home? Or here?

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory frowned.

Here. But don't tell anyone. It should be public knowledge soon, but I don't want anyone to panic.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Got it. And if you need someone to talk to, well, you know.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks. I appreciate it. And I might yet take you up on it.

By the way, that Obi-Wan guy is really cool.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Door's always open.

And yeah, he kinda is. Not that I'd tell him that, of course.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
He said that you have 'a remarkable talent for finding young women in peril.' So I'm guessing that the nifty light-up swordy thing isn't just for slaying zombies.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Anakin blushed reading her note.

Gonna have to kill him for that. However accurate a statement it might be. But yeah, the lightsaber has seen some action.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh. Cool!

Oh, and of course, I told him I wasn't in peril, since clearly I had my frying pan to assist me. He didn't seem to really believe that, though.

[identity profile] emo-padawan.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh. Shortsighted of him to underestimate your skill with a frying pan. Especially given his experience with an Ewok with a grudge, a giant acorn and really good aim.

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
...what's an Ewok? It sounds cute and fuzzy.

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory nodded grimly. "Absolutely, sir. Is something wrong?"

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
Rory sighed. "No, sir, I'm not. One of my friends has been missing and is...presumed dead," she said shakily.

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Rory bit her lip. "I don't know, sir. I don't think anyone knows where she is, or really what happend to her." Rory frowned. "No one's seen her since Thursday night."

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Rory blanched. "I'm not supposed to tell anyone, but...I trust you, and she was one of your students. Kitty Pryde."

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Rory shook her head. "I don't think it will either, sir. But I think Alanna - that's who told me, because I was one of the last people to see Kitty - is trying to keep people from flying into a panic. And I don't even know how the dean's going to deal with all of it."

Re: After Class - NFB

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-11-02 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Rory took a deep breath. "Well, Marty was there too, sir, but...he doesn't remember what happened that night. He had been out walking with me and Vladdie, and...he can't remember what happened."

She crossed her arms around her midsection, suddenly feeling queasy again. "I'm not saying he did it, or anything. I love Marty and he's one of my best friends - but I also think that you might want to make sure you go to Alanna."
