Student Council Meeting, October 31, 2005

Phoebe shows up and starts laying things out. Her face is white and her eyes are angry, but she seems to be in perfect control. She smiles as people enter the room.

"Happy Halloween, guys."

ETA: The mun will be in and out as there are mas trick or treaters tonight.

New events suggestions
*Upcoming Holiday Dance
Create Special events committee
Town Hall meeting for Student Council members and student body
Creation of Peer Tutoring program
Creation of school Honor Society
Meet and Greet Between Humans and Non-Humans in a neutral environment
Provisions for students having nowhere to go during holidays
Possibility of starting self defense classes*

*Needs ~~Mod's~~ Dean's approval

Marty signs in.

"Um... I don't think Rory is going to make it tonight. She's not feeling.. well."

[OOC: Will be on much later. Added Agenda items from Student Council community.]

Faith nods as she reads the list. "Wow, these are actually really good ideas. I really like the plans for kids staying over the holidays- which we should probably get started on, since Thanksgiving is in a few weeks."

"And as far as self-defense classes, maybe even student volunteers could run it, if we can't find a teacher willing to teach. I know that there are a lot of really talented students as far as that goes."

"We should probably check with Professor MacLeod and Coach Ash before we go that route, since they are gym teachers. But they may not be able to hold enough classes, so... it's a possibility." Parker cocks an eyebrow at Faith. "Would you be willing to do it?"

"Oh, definitely check with them- maybe the martial arts teacher and the super bug guy too. But if they can't, or are too busy, I could run a few classes. ~~Joining StuCo, defending people- I need to turn in my evil!badge!~~."

Elizabeth scribbles her name illegibly to the sheet.

"I have some experience with teaching self defense as well. I can talk to the dean about it tomorrow."

[OOC: This was a sticky issue with the mods before. I was hoping we could get a comment on this by Dean Bristow]

Any thoughts about how parents weekend went? How we can be better prepared? How events can be organized better?

Anya signs in ~~on time for once~~

Anya skims through the agenda. There's no mention of money, so she's not really interested.

"On the security end, I'm going to say good. As far as I know, no fights, no illegal weapons, and no major mental breakdowns. Maybe next time have the kids greet their parents by the door though? I know some did, but others..."

*Parker snorts, and does not mention what she heard about Lee Adama hiding for a day and a half*

Alanna raised a brow. "Disagreeing?"

Parker reads this, and frowns. "What's the Special Event committee? I thought we already had one of those."

"Not at all. I'm just not sure there's a way to make it happen. I can see forty kids suddenly coming down with strep for Parent's Weekend, if we try to do this. But it might still be a good idea-- I think some of the parents were wandering around lost, and we were lucky none of them were eaten by a locker. Or squid."

Alanna smiled weakly. "Well, I was keeping an eye on the going ons, making sure that no one was near the locker for one thing. But yeah, parents need to be chapperoened better."
