Anya skims through the agenda. There's no mention of money, so she's not really interested.

[OOC: Frankly I'd like to see the Dean's reaction to you investing money in the bond market. Feel free to add to the agenda.]

ooc: I was actually thinking about that.....do I have to wait until next week?

Parker turns to Anya. "Can we afford to pay tutors? Or should we just be a clearinghouse, if they want to be paid, and work out their own rates with the tutorees?"

[ooc: Ha! $$ question.]

Anya looks at Parker, excited that someone seems to care about a money issue.

"I would like to answer your question Parker, but I have no records. The dean said the only information I can have regarding the money is if I need some to fill out a form and ask him." she answers sounding a bit bitchy towards the end. She hates that Dean Bristow won't let her care for the money personally.

"Hunh. Well, this is definitely an issue, then. Work up a budget for ... I don't know, a certain number of hours a week for tutors, for the rest of the semester? Figure they get paid, oh, $10 an hour. That's better than the movie theatre. Then have the Dean approve it. Make sense?"

"How many tutors would I be budgeting for?" she asks trying to clarify her newfound all important money-related task.

She stops and thinks, "And, don't you think $10 is a bit high? I mean, I realize these tutors will helping people but couldn't we try to work out something that gave them credit for tutoring thus reducing the amount they earn? It would be better for us in the long run, and still give the students incentive to participate."

She *really* doesn't want to let go of the money.

"Figure... hmm. Good question, actually. Maybe we should do a survey, find out how many teachers have students who aren't passing, and base it on that? For just a baseline, figure half the classes."

Parker reconsiders, then shrugs. "I suppose that is high, and we don't have to pay the market rate, after all.. and yes, course credit or extracurricular credit is a good idea."

Tapping a finger on her notebook, she said, "Do a budget anyway, whether they're paid or not is up to the Dean, but he'll probably want solid numbers. Make it $8 an hour-- they won't get that many hours a week, maybe a maximum of five hours per tutor, or it'll interfere with classes-- and one tutor per every two classes. Some of them can double up the coursework, after all; and some of them have TA's. Call that our starting budget, and if the Dean vetoes it, we can offer it as course credit."

[ooc: because I have no idea which way would be more fun to play. :> ]

"Sound good to me, but I really want to push for the credits in exchange for working versus the money in exchange for working when we present it to Dean Bristow."

ooc: Is loving this!

Parker rolled her eyes. "Look, if you feel that strongly about it? Put up a survey. I'm guessing that cash beats credits, but maybe there are students who dropped classes who could use it on their report card. *Don't* weight it one way or the other... and we'll present it with the spin of whichever side has the greatest appeal. Works?"

[[snerk! love Anya being stubborn]]

Parker *obviously* doesn't understand Anya's job at all. It's to save and make money not to throw it away to every boy-genius on campus that's looking to make a quick buck off of someone else's failure to learn.

"I'll draw it up both ways if it makes you happy," she says with a hint of annoyance in her voice, "but I really think that we could could use that money elsewhere, or as Marty and I were discussing in Martial Arts last week, perhaps invest it so we could have even more money."

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
"So diversify. You need approval from the Dean, *either way*." Parker makes a face. "Yes, Anya, it would make me happy just to know if paying tutors is too expensive to even consider. And it would overjoy me to be certain that people want course credit more than money. All right?"

Re: New Business

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
"Look Parker, you don't need to get snippy. I'm just trying to do my job which is to look at all the options before we go throwing money around."

Re: New Business

[identity profile] mparkerceo.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
Parker glared at Anya, tired of this conversation already. "Good. Great. Do that. But you realize it's there to be spent *eventually*, right?"

Re: New Business

[identity profile] not-an-ex-demon.livejournal.com 2005-11-01 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
Wow! When did Parker become such an uber-bitch? Anya thinks to herself.

"Yes Parker, and when we do spend money I will make sure you're the one to get to hand over the dollars that is if you can pry them from Bristow's tight grip."

"Thank you." Parker sighs. "Next order of business...."
