Tara laughs. "Of course you can join, Xander. You've just crept in under Dean Bristow's deadline. You will need to do a little make-up work, but it shouldn't be particularly time consuming, and I'll give you a different assignment later in the semester, once you've found your feet."
Xander glances down at his shoes, then mimes shock. "Oh my god, I didn't even realize they were missing. Do I even want to know what the gremlins are gonna steal next?"
The look on Xander's face is half smile, half confused frown. "That's... kinda weird. In a nice way. I mean, everybody else from Sunnydale may not be from my Sunnydale, but at least I know some version of them. You're the only one who knows me, or, you know, some other me, who I don't know at all."
He scratches his head. "I think I got lost somewhere in there. It was the extra 'you know' that did it."
Laughing, Tara assures him, "it's all the same. Really. We're the same people, no matter where we come from. But I do keep forgetting that you don't remember me. Or, um, know me in the first place to remember me."
"I'm sure I'd have... um. I would? I did? Like you. If and/or when I know and/or knew you." Xander shook his head, and grinned. "Why don't we just go with 'will.' Since that seems pretty inevitable even if I don't turn into saving-the-world guy."
Tara ducks her head, blushing a little. "Thanks. So, um, you'll be coming to class today? You don't need to worry about the first hour, that's processing the assignment, but if you could come from 3-4 that would be great."
"Sure." Xander nods. "I don't think I'll be officially in the class til Tuesday, but as long as I can convince the teacher not to kick me out of the room, we're probably good for today."
Tara waves her hand dismissively, with a grin. "Eh, I hear the teacher's pretty easy going. Give her a smile and she'll let you get away with practically anything."
