Philosophy classroom: Monday office hours

Tara is at her desk, a too-cheerful smile firmly in place below tired, red-rimmed eyes.

Tara nods, waiting expectantly for the punchline.

Phoebe sees that Tara doesn't understand.

"Tara...Cole is in that book...as well as a spell to vanquish him..."

Tara nods, again... and finally realises that was the punchline.

"Phoebe... you knew Belthazor is a demon. Why are you so surprised to find him in your book?"

Phoebe sighs.

"I know...I had hoped that he wasn't a well known one in the Halliwell/Warren line." She looks at Tara. "What I was surprised to find was a spell that detailed how to kill the man I love.'

Tara brushes Phoebe's hair away from her face with a tender hand. "This just makes you even, sweetie. He knows how to kill you, you know how to kill him. It doesn't mean either of you are going to do it."

Phoebe shakes her head, but feels a bit better at Tara's touch.

"I'm not worried about him hurting me or me hurting him, Tara. I'm not worried about my sisters using the spell. I'm worried about someone else ever seeing it."

Tara smiles, radiating positivity. "So you guard the book well, and maybe find a spell to bind or hide that page. And you study it well, and you learn how to protect him from it if you need to. If you can cast the spell, you can defend against it."

Phoebe bites her lip.

"That's where the next part comes in."

Tara nods, waiting.

Phoebe looks at her.

"Grams asked us to find other witches that might help us get a hand on our powers and who we are. I thought of you..."

"Someone has to teach you girls," Tara agrees. "Would you like me to look into starting up a magic class?"

Phoebe looks relieved and a lot of tension drains out of her.

"I was afraid you would think I was asking too much," she says with a smile.

Tara takes a deep breath and looks at Phoebe seriously. "Having people with that sort of power around - and untrained - is a danger to everyone, including me. It's selfish, as much as anything else."

She bites her lip, thinking for a moment. "It couldn't be an actual class - at least, not this semester. But perhaps a club? I think this is important enough for people to do it even without receiving credit."

Phoebe nods. "I think that would work, and I agree."

"I don't know the school very well yet... is there already a club this might infringe on? Or would it be an entirely new one?"

"I honestly don't know of any club like this, Tara."

Tara nods, taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly. "Okay, Phoebe. So what do we need to do to set up a club? I know you need a Faculty Advisor - that part's easy - but who do we need permission from?"

Phoebe nods. "I believe you only need to get permission from the Dean."

Tara frowns. "Did you want to talk to him? I believe clubs are usually set up at the behest of the student population, not a teacher."

Phoebe thinks about this and then nods. "I'll go see him tomorrow."

"Thank you," Tara replies quietly. "This is the right thing to do."

Phoebe nods. "I believe so."
