True Heroism! The Olympian Way! Session 4, Period 3

Once the class had gathered (inside the Danger Shop again, blasted cold), Hercules switched on the simulation. The class found itself in a dank, dripping dungeon, lit only by torchlight. He wore his usual heroic outfit again, since they were in the comfort of the indoors.

"Today's class is simple. You are to explore the dungeon, and fight the dragon at the end for its treasure!" Hercule laughed. "You will find swords and armor in this room, if you do not have any yourselves. Teamwork shall be key, and be wary of traps and goblins. I'm told this is all very traditional, according to the documentaries on SyFy." He gestured to the ominous double wooden doors ahead. "This is a trial of courage and mettle. Both of which heroes and heroines need. Don't worry, you cannot be maimed by the computer. But if you'd suffer wounds too great, you will be sent back to the beginning."

He clapped his hands together. "Go forth and delve into the dungeon!"

Raven wasn't clumsy, but she wasn't wise to the way of traps, so she set more than one off as she moved through the dungeon. Fortunately, she was quick to teleport before falling victim to dropping rocks or disappearing floors.

Avoiding traps was easy for Luke. When you set a lot of traps yourself you knew what to look for. He did end up setting off one of the booby trapped cobblestones he was able to avoid getting arrowed thanks to some quick moving.

This actually was like real life. Save for the recent acquisition of demigods trying to kill him as well. This sword was nowhere as good as Backbiter, but Luke dispatched the giant spider-things that attacked him easily.

Raven didn't see why they were supposed to fight the dragon when as far as she knew, it hadn't done anything. The giant spiders and goblins weren't necessarily employed by the dragon, after all. And the dragons she'd met in Kaeleer were nice.

"Hello," she said, revealing herself to the dragon, prepared to teleport if talon or tail or gout of flame came at her. "I am told I am to fight you and take your treasure, but I do not think that is very fair to you without knowing the circumstances behind the request. Have you somehow acquired this wealth through violence and theft? If so, what need do you have for it? It serves no purpose merely lying here in a dungeon. Surely you can return it to those to whom it belongs and be none the worse for it. But if it is truly yours, then I certainly have no right to take it from you."

That's so Raven.

The large green dragon just so happened to be wearing underpants (http://goodcomics.comicbookresources.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/08/Foom%201.jpg).

The dragon huffed a big and writhed over its large hoard. "Do you think that I gained this gold through well placed 401k investments?"

"We were not provided knowledge of how you came to be possession of this gold," Raven said. "But it would be wrong to assume it was through nefarious means. I have met dragons before, and they were not violent or greedy."

"You are very... positive," the dragon said. He was only programmed in Fin Fang Foom's likeness, not in attitude or action.

Mainly so that no students ended up in his pants. "You traverse a dangerous dungeon and wonder if I am just misunderstood. That is very heroic to not jump to conclusions."

Raven would be most appreciative of that; she had no wish to get into Fin Fang Foom's pants.

"If you were not a simulation, I could use my gift to determine your nature," Raven said. "But since I cannot, it would be wrong to judge you without the facts. I would be devastated if I somehow brought an innocent to harm."

"Well, I am an evil dragon. Rawr," the dragon said, making a half-hearted gestured with its claws.

Hercules had not spent much time programming this, no. He'd been distracted by pictures of pretty female soccer stars on the internet.

"I will eat you and then eat a baby as a chaser. Rawr."

"You do not sound very convincing," Raven said skeptically. "And for someone of your size, I cannot help but thing that neither I nor a baby would make a satisfying meal. I would hardly be worth the effort."

"They're like popcorn chicken. Delicious but not filling," the dragon said. "Do I need to breathe fire on you? I breathe fire."

"You may try, but you will not succeed," Raven warned him. "But if you do so, then it will sadly confirm that you are evil. I hope you will not do this thing."

The dragon reared back, and let forth a blast of flame from it's nostrils.

Raven quickly teleported out of the way, reappearing a safe distance away from the dragon, though still in its line of sight. "I am very sorry you did that," she said sincerely. "Now I will be forced to make certain you can do no one any harm."

"Well good, because that is the point of this whole thing," the dragon responded, lashing out with its tail in Raven's direction.

She teleported herself out of range again, then summoned forth her Soul-Self. It rose from her shoulders, growing in size until it was as large as the dragon, then she directed it to wrap around the creature.

She wasn't sure if she could do this to a hologram, but this was one way to find out. What was one more giant lizard to the netherverse?

And bloop! Gone was one giant green dragon in underpants.

If it could tweet, it would be all 'RAVEN I AM IN YOU!'

Karla would probably scold her, but without her empathy to allow her to pacify the dragon, she had no other option. She'd deposit the dragon on some planet in a dimension with giant vegetables and no people for him to eat, and all would be well. Right?

Re: Confront a Dragon!

[identity profile] olympian-herc.livejournal.com 2011-07-30 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hercules peered over from behind a doorway.

"...Did you just eat the dragon?" he asked.

"I took him into my Soul-Self so that I might send him elsewhere where he could do no harm," Raven said, turning to face her teacher. "Is that permissible?"
