It was still cold which meant Bod was toting a thermos of hot chocolate with him today. He made sure to keep it away from the books so any possible spills wouldn't ruin any literature but he felt like he needed it to keep himself warm today. After shelving the books, he tucked himself up behind the desk with a book and imagined a fireplace going behind him to keep the feelings and thoughts of warmth nearby

"Oh?" she asked, neutrally. "And what did you say?"

"I told her that I might," Bod replied. "She wanted to hear me sing and to try to get along with you, apparently. I told her I wouldn't be singing."

"I'm liking the odds of that other thing, either," Kate drawled. "I guess you sorted out your... thing, with her, then?"

At that, Bod shrugged. "I don't know. I mostly just had a pleasant conversation with her. It was nice. I told her I might stop in and then teased her about joining the military."

Kate may have had Feelings about that, but she was being a good girlfriend and not articulating them, for once. "Okay then," she said lightly, even if it barely meant anything. "So, how's your day been so far? It doesn't look too busy in here."

Such a smooth transition from one topic to another, there.

Yes, Bod noticed that oh so smooth change of topic too. He let it go though and shrugged a shoulder easily.

"It's never too busy," he replied, glancing around. "It's quiet and I read a lot but other than that, what you see is pretty much what you get."

"Well, it's a library," she noted, reaching for the hot chocolate again. "I mean, the stereotypical thing is that even if there's people, it's quiet."

"I know that but you did ask how my day was going," Bod pointed out with a light smile. "And I was just telling you that it's been quiet and non eventful. I suppose that's a good thing."

[Storm! BRB!]

"And I was just noting that your day's pretty much been what could be expected," Kate retorted. "That's all I was doing."

"Well, fine," Bod laughed, reaching out to flick her nose. "My day has been quiet but good as expected."

"Well, good," she replied, wrinkling her nose when it was flicked. "I just wanted to check. You know, to make sure you don't come back from work all bummed out or whatever."

"Would you try and make me feel better if that happened?" Bod asked, smiling at her.

"Of course, and for purely selfish reasons," Kate teased him. "You're staying in my room. I don't want you bumming me out."

"Am I ever that sad even when I'm genuinely upset?" Bod wondered. "I try not to show it."

"What, you think I don't notice anyway?" Kate snorted, because she liked to think that she did. "Gee, thanks."

"That...isn't what I said," Bod replied, frowning. "I was just making a statement of how I cope. You do the same thing."

"Yeah but that doesn't really work on either of us, does it?" she returned, slight frown and all. "So, bumming out can still happen."

"It doesn't and I never said it did," he reminded her. "It was just a general statement of how I try to cope. You see through it and I know that but I still try to be stoic about things."

"Yeah, but originally it sounded like that would stop me from being bummed out, you know, for me at least," she replied, then shook her head. "But, whatever. So irrelevant."

"All right," he said and drew a circle on the desk idly since he had no good reply to that.

And Kate watched him do that because she had no good reply to that.
"Well," she said after a moment, "this sure got awkward fast."

"Indeed," he agreed with a slight nod. "It did."

They tended to do that every so often and it was always a bit strange how quick it happened.

"So, uh..." Yeah, she didn't really know what to stay to continue, now. She was overthinking it, actually. "Um."

Bod kept drawing circles on the desk with his finger and occasionally looking up at her. He didn't know what to say either but he was just keeping his mouth closed for the moment.

"So um, I think I'm gonna head out again," Kate decided after a moment more, already reaching for her bag again. "Yeah."
