It was still cold which meant Bod was toting a thermos of hot chocolate with him today. He made sure to keep it away from the books so any possible spills wouldn't ruin any literature but he felt like he needed it to keep himself warm today. After shelving the books, he tucked himself up behind the desk with a book and imagined a fireplace going behind him to keep the feelings and thoughts of warmth nearby

He was there behind the desk, reading a book and drinking hot chocolate from a thermos!

"This is ridiculous," Kate announced as she came in and made her way to the desk, bundled up in winter clothes and carrying a shopping bag from one of the clothing stores on the mainland. "We need to move somewhere warm already."

Bod put his book down and smiled at her. "I don't know, I don't find it so bad. I quite like the cold weather now that I've become used to it. Are you very cold?"

"No, but I had to walk through town in my winter clothes to get to the causeway, to get to the mainland," Kate explained. "You know, the real mainland, where it is, in fact, totally summer."

"Why did you go to the mainland?" Bod wondered, raising an eyebrow. "Perhaps you should have waited a bit until it was warmer here. I've some hot chocolate in my thermos if you'd like."

"A girl needs to shop, Bod," Kate replied, setting her bag down on the counter so she could reach for his thermos. "Somewhere other than this ice age place."

"And what did you need to shop for?" Bod wondered, leaning back in his chair. "Clothing?"

She shrugged idly. "A dress, some other necessities..."

"Other necessities?" Bod asked since that sounded open ended.

"New tights, socks, underwear..." She shrugged gain, taking a sip from the thermos. "You know. Stuff like that."

"All right," he said, holding up a hand. "Did you have an enjoyable time once you got to the mainland?"

"Well, I had to dump like ninety percent of my clothes once I got there," she pointed out. "But after that, it was fun. I mean, dress shopping usually is."

"For you, perhaps," Bod laughed, smiling. "What are your plans for the rest of the day? Staying warm in your room?"

"For most of it, anyway," Kate shrugged. "I'm still debating going into town for the evening."

"To the party?" Bod wondered, looking mildly surprised.

"Well, it's actually more like fifty fifty between that and the Devil's Nest," she admitted. "Or, I guess technically more like twenty-five twenty-five, since one fifty is already taken up by just staying home."

"Caroline came into the diner yesterday and asked if I would be coming," Bod shared, reaching for his thermos so he could take a few sips.

"Oh?" she asked, neutrally. "And what did you say?"

"I told her that I might," Bod replied. "She wanted to hear me sing and to try to get along with you, apparently. I told her I wouldn't be singing."

"I'm liking the odds of that other thing, either," Kate drawled. "I guess you sorted out your... thing, with her, then?"

At that, Bod shrugged. "I don't know. I mostly just had a pleasant conversation with her. It was nice. I told her I might stop in and then teased her about joining the military."

Kate may have had Feelings about that, but she was being a good girlfriend and not articulating them, for once. "Okay then," she said lightly, even if it barely meant anything. "So, how's your day been so far? It doesn't look too busy in here."

Such a smooth transition from one topic to another, there.

After she pings in, mind you!
