Tricks, Cons and Bamboozles | Tuesday | Period 4

Neal was thrilled he wasn’t a pony anymore. Seriously. So thrilled. He didn’t know if he could manage walking into a class and trying to teach while he had hooves and a tail. Fortunately, he didn’t have to.

When the students filed into the classroom, they would find the desks set up in rows of two, the chairs facing each other. On every desk was a small compact mirror. Don’t ask Neal where he got the mirrors. On the board in the front of the room was written in big blue letters:

“So,” he said once everyone was seated. “Last week we did fake introductions and practiced lying. This week we’re going to talk about the mechanics of it. More specifically, we’re going to talk about tells.”

“A tell,” he continued, “is something that gives you away when you’re lying. There are some that are pretty common, like blinking or stuttering. Some, you’ll only ever find on one person and hope you never, ever see it again.” He grinned. “Funny story, I once knew a guy named Billy who got really, really itchy when he lied.” A downward glance revealed just where, in fact, Billy had itched. Of course, that would be inappropriate to discuss in class, so he just implied it and left it at that.

“Today, I want you all to pair off in groups of two and start talking. You guys heard of the game Two Truths and a Lie? That’s basically what I’m talking about. Your partner’s job is to try to identify the lie by picking up on any tells that you might have. Then, once you learn what your tells are, I want you to watch yourselves in the mirrors I put on your desks and try to spot them.”

He hopped up onto the desk at the front of the room. “Ready? Pair off and get going. If you have any questions, you can come find me or Kenzi, the new TA.” He gestured to point her out. “Say hello, Kenzi."

That... was an unfortunate place to itch. In general, not just when lying, although that was even worse.

Marshall didn't know that he had any tells, but then, he realised, he wouldn't necessarily notice, would he?

That was an obvious tell, one that would quickly end up with the man's purse empty. James blinked a few times, remembering some of the training in his youth; he was certain that few would notice his excessive blinking as a tell.

Nathan hadn't ever thought about his tells when he lied. He just lied and lied and lied and very few people seemed to automatically tell that he was lying.

Maybe he had a tell when he was actually being honest. Hmm.

Quinn listened thoughtfully. She didn't think she had a tell, but when she was lying she tended to be concentrating so hard on keeping the details straight that she wasn't necessarily focused on everything her body did.

She'd have to watch that.

Ramona was pretty sure she didn't have any tells. She didn't blush often, she didn't fidget, and her voice almost never changed inflection.

But it was still a useful lesson, all the same.

This is what she missed about Fandom, the unconventional classes. Where else could she learn about these things but in Fandom!

As he listened to the teacher, Richie wondered if Mac had any idea what he'd gotten him into. Today he got to practice lying, how great was that?

Marshall looked around for someone to pair up with.

[I am off to bed v.shortly, but will pick up pings in the morning -- but I will prooobably be v.v.sp-ish tomorrow due to heading to my dad's for a day or two.]

"I don't know you," Quinn said, turning her chair to face Marshall's. "Lie to me."

[OOC: SP = fine!]

Kenzi was bouncing, ready to play one truth and two lies. Or whatever. This was going to be fun.

If given a choice between two blokes and girl, Nathan was gonna pick the girl. So, he sat down across from her and grinned.

"Fifty fucking dollars say you can't tell a goddamn thing about me," Nathan said because things weren't already interesting.

James looked around, wondering if anyone here could pick his lie amongst truths...and if he could pick theirs.

Ramona was amazing at this game, thank you kindly. She had enough weird crap happen to her that it'd be easy to keep anyone from guessing correctly, anyway, she thought.

"Hello, people!"

Not a pony! Do the happy dance! TA! Do the happy dance!

Yeah, someone stopped by the Perk earlier.

"Oh, and if I previously told you my name was Astra? Lie."

"So, were you clip-clopping through the weekend and yesterday? Did you get wings and a cute forelock?" Kenzi wanted to know, putting the coffee cup down next to Neal's chair. Then slurping from her super-size cup.

Asuna approached her teacher and was immediately struck by how handsome he was, not as handsome as Takamichi-sensei but still... Asuna shook her head. C'mon, this isn't what she was supposed to talk about!

"Caffrey-sensei?"

Hey, kids, gather 'round and I'll let you in on Kenzi's lying tell!

Her lips are moving.
