Parents of the following students are invited to come talk to CJ Cregg about their progress in Speech Comm.

Yes. Did the administration not contact you regarding the matter? As his...guardian, I thought you of all people would know.

[She sighs as if this frustrates her to no end]

Mr. Harkness, in a fit of rage, broke my vase that I kept on my desk and tried to cut out my heart in fron of the entire class. Fortunately, he didn't succeed.

Is this information upsetting for you, Doctor...Smith?

Very upsetting, Miss Cregg. Not only that Jack would do such a thing, but that such an incident would be kept from me by yourself, myself, and him. *narrows his eyes for a second, then relaxes*

I am to hope he wasn't in full control of his capacities at the time. I'm sure this school has had more than it's fair share of incidents that might have messed with poor Jack, correct?

Correct. This town tends to be a nexus of weird. Mr. Harkness is in no way unique in his unusual behavior.

[She picks up her notepad and pen]

Do you have any other questions for me?

What do I need to do to prove I'm worthy of your trust? I know I've been less than forthcoming, and that my behaviour yesterday may have been a bit strong for a first meeting, so. Here I am, wondering if you want to know anything about me, really. I don't want us to be at odds with each other, even if I am around for such a short while.

[Stunned, she blinks several times and opens her mouth to speak--only to shut it again. She stares at him for several moments before she speaks, softly]

You need to go. I..you're a theory. A concept. An idea of what Ten's past was. I can't...I don't...[she closes her eyes and breathes deeply] You make my head hurt.

I'm sorry to have upset you. I'll just stay completely away, then. *stands up, and walks to the door*

[ Her eyes still closed, she rubs her temple] No...you can't go. You're here...do what needs done. This is my problem. Not yours.

Be Chip's parent. Be Beka's whatever. Can we just pretend you're somone else? John Smith...whoever. Just not...him?

Well, pretending is all well and good, but it's not like anyone doesn't already know who I am.

If it really hurts that much to think we're the same... just, pretend I'm his brother, or something. We're similar, but not the same.

His brother? I could actually see that. Yes...thank you, that actually helps me a lot. Wait, what? Who knows who you are? Besides Ten and I?

Rose, obviously. Beka was sort of in on the whole bringing me here plans, so she knows as well, and...

I didn't tell him a thing. He was able to figure it out himself. Because I'm not the one who told him. He had all the knowledge already, because I... my "brother" decided it was best he knew.

If I had known that this would have happened, I wouldn't have gone near him. I'm sorry.

[She begins to breathe hard, in through her nose and out through her mouth. Nausea hits her waves and her whole body goes cold]

Ten told him? He TOLD Chip? Not...everything. He didn't tell him everything. Did he?

*hurries over and attempts to place a comforting hand on her back*

CJ... I don't know exactly what he told him, but I'm certain he told him more than a little. But it's not really my place to be the one having this conversation. You should be talking to him about this, not me.

[And he's there...and he's gentle...and she's fragile with betrayal. She leans her forehead on his shoulder and speaks softly, mostly to herself]

How could he? My Jack...oh, god. Secrets...why would he tell? He told me not to tell...I kept that in me. And now, poor Jack.

Hey, now... I'm sure he had his reasons. I can't say I blame him, really. Just sitting ther with Jack, pretendin' to be someone else, it was all I could do not to just break down and hug him, right then and there.

If I was having trouble after a short conversation, I can only imagine what he was going through for an extended period of time. He's not all that bad, really.

Charm the stars out of the sky, he could. Course, I'm not sure what he'd do with them after that, but he'd do it anyway. *he smiles at her, comfortingly*

Jack's strong. He might be a little broken up now, but he'll recover, and be even stronger than before. Don't go doubting him too quickly.

And on that note, I have to take a step back. As much as I'd like to defend him to the last... I can't relly explain his actions, either. He had reasons, certainly, that's not in doubt at all.

*smiles* And I wouldn't have it any other way. Meddling may be my profession, but meddling with people is another thing entirely.

But, as I said, I'm sorry. I've apparently dug up more than a few hurtful items in my little time here, and... well, it was unexpected, and I cannot apologize enough.
