Parent Check-in

Rover, Martin Blank and Alanna Trebond sit at the registration table with information packets

Included in the packets are:
Your child's/ward's/whatever relationship you have with this person's Class Schedule
A Map of the School and Town
A Schedule of Events for Parents Weekend
The rules and regulations of Parents Weekend
A Coupon Book

At the desk is a sign saying:
Please sign in here for Parents Weekend

And depending who is looking at the sign it will magically say:
To ensure everyone's safety, please surrender any Firearms/Weaponry/Magical doodads that will cause harm to our students.

Your property will be returned to you before you leave.

ETA: Parents/Guardians are now required to check in on their own.
((OOC: In other words... If your parents are somewhat "normal" and unarmed they will not see the message. Unless they are packing some kind of weapon, and then they will be see it. Got it?))

John spots Janet in the crowd and gives her a little wave. "Janet. You, uh, wanna meet the elder me while he's here?"

"Hey, John!" exclaims Janet, smiling. "Yeah. Did you want to introduce him to Uncle George?"

"Sure!" John smiles and waves his own father over.

"Hey, John." Sam wanders over to join John and Janet. "How's it going?"

John shrugs. "It's...going. My father is talking to Parker. I have fear."

"I'm sure it'll be fine," she says, squeezing his arm. She whispers, "Where's Aeryn?"

Jack comes over, finally noticing his son's wave. "More friends, John?" Jack offers his hand. "Jack Crichton."

The general extends his hand. "George Hammond, Janet's uncle."

Jack shakes Hammond's hand and smiles. "Janet. Ah, the one with the needles. Yes, John has mentioned her once or twice. How are you, Mr. Hammond?"

"Fine," he replies, "just fine." He casts a sidelong glance at Janet, then continues. "Looking forward to some time with your son, Mr. Crichton?"

"I've got this tendency to joke about my plans for med school," says Janet.

"Med school? Very ambitious."

Janet grins. "Oh, well, it's a few years off," she says. "I can't decide what to major in for undergrad, though. Biology seems a little too plan. Maybe biochemistry?"

Jack smiles warmly at Janet. "I think either of those would be very beneficial."

((...a little too plain.))

"I am, definitely. He thinks he's an adult, old enough to be on his own." Jack shakes his head. "And you, Mr. Hammond? Are you and Janet planning on spending time together?"

Hammond drops a hand to rest on Janet's shoulder. He offers Jack Crichton a smile, but hopes Janet hears the import of his words. "I'm hoping to. It seems her long, newsy letters are getting shorter and less informative with each passing term."

Jack nods in understanding. "My son rarely writes me. I mean, what could possibly be so important that they can't write us?"

Janet doesn't wince. Barely. She does, however, make a mental note to write letters full of all kinds of information. Most of it even relevant.

She hopes to God he doesn't find out about the zombies, the gremlins, the vampires, or the Goa'uld teaching Celtic Studies. Actually, wait, she really, really hopes General Hammond finds out about him.

Janet smiles and holds out her hand. "Janet Fraiser," she says. "Nice to finally meet you."

Jack takes her hand in both of his. "Nice to meet you, young lady. John has mentioned you once or twice."

"We're neighbors," she says. "I live in the dorm room next door to his, so we see each other a lot. You've got a great son." She smiles over at John. "The poor guy's become my regular source for Girl Scout cookies."

John nods and considers this new information. He's heard a lot about Aeryn and not a lot about Janet. He's beginning to wonder why. "So, he's your neighbor and he buys you Girl Scout cookies? I'm surprised you haven't married him yet," Jack says with a laugh.

Janet grins and shrugs. "Well, you know, a girl doesn't have a chance with Aeryn around, and since she and I are rooming together--." She takes a sip of her punch. "Besides, I'm awfully busy now with the new peer moderator group, and John, Sam, and I have just started our Independent Study with the math professor."

"There's just too much to do to plan a wedding right now!" She laughs.

"You and Aeryn are roommates?" John rubs his chin thoughtfully. "Does that work out okay? And John's doing a math independent study?" Jack practically beams. "He didn't tell me that. You sound like a very intelligent, very busy young lady, Janet."

He lowers his voice. "I would help plan this wedding, of course."
