Try Not to Die!! [Tuesday, May 17, 3rd period]

Anakin was rather enjoying the movements of the island, even if this one took them to a place as hot and full of sand as Tatooine. Ugh, sand. It certainly made coming up with his class assignments more interesting.

"Welcome to Alexandria, Egypt," he said. Rory was going to love hearing where they were now. "Today's tasks will take you through this ancient city," he paused, "in its heyday."

Working in Fandom was weird. He stepped back from the clue box. "You will complete two tasks, then meet Tahiri and I somewhere in the city. Try not to die."

Okay. On foot? Warren could handle that. He'd already hidden his wings away for the sake of running around this place, because while the Vikings had seemed easygoing enough to take his mutation in stride, Warren still wasn't entirely certain what to make of the ancient Egyptians. So, on foot. On foot was good.

... He was so, so lost, and had no idea how in the world to ask for instructions around here. A certain somebody functioned so much better when he had his birds-eye views to work with, yes.

Sam was suddenly glad he'd gone out into Alexandria yesterday so the massive city didn't completely intimidate him. He managed to find the ship quick enough and tucked the books under his arm before turning to try and find the Library.

The crowds in the streets slowed him and he got some bad directions from a local which had him turned around and lost for a few minutes before he managed to find his way back. The heat wasn't helping this trek at all.

Sure Cara could have asked for directions, but that would have taken more effort and more politeness than she care to make. Much easier to simply grab a passer-by and inform them they were playing guide, and if wanted to start a brawl in the street over it, well there were some kinds of effort she was still capable of making.

(Un)fortunately, the chosen passer-by had enough to survival instincts to go along with what the scary blonde foreigner wanted.

Right, so? Navigating large cities on his own? Something Toby was actually not that bad at. He found the ship without too much trouble, snagged the books, and handed them in all within a reasonable amount of time.

Angelica got the books, but she had trouble asking for directions, mainly because she was too shy to speak up. She wandered around for awhile before finally finding the correct library and turning in her books.

This, Surreal was good at. She'd done some handwavey exploring yesterday, and spent most of the day hanging out down at the port for fun. Sailors gossiped worse than Aristos.

It was easy to find the ship, and then she was off and running, darting down alleys and maybe stealing something from a food-stall as she ran past. Hey, a witch had to eat.

Moving books. Alexander had to laugh a little at this road block, especially riding on his win from last week. Now this he could do! This, he already did practically every week in the library, and even before that! It wasn't exactly taking books from ships and taking them to the library because he wasn't allowed outside the tower growing up, but there were a lot of stairs in a tower and Mannanan was sometimes very fickle in his decorating...

Oh. Gabrielle moving books around. That was such a hardship, except not; she'd already been to the Library, and she was used to traveling on foot.

That part wasn't hard; it was just that she couldn't help wandering off into the Library to explore while she was there, and lost track of time, and well . . . oops.

Damian started out with a smug sense of superiority, since he'd been to the modern Alexandria several times and knew the city fairly well. He was dismayed to discover just how much the language and geography had changed in two millennia. Fortunately, some of his tutor's lessons on stupid old buildings had stuck in his head and he found the Library without getting completely lost and learned some new Ancient Egyptian vocabulary from an unnecessarily rude banana vendor. Mother would have been pleased. Not that he cared what she thought.

Annie had been out yesterday, so she was fairly confident that she'd be able to handle this without a problem. And she did get to the ship and get the books just fine. However, she overestimated herself in finding the library, and ended up a little lost, which put her behind.

At least she got there?

Jack made god time despite getting lost from the ship to the library. Twice.

Along the way he cursed the heat and the lack of GPS in this time period.

Lindsay quickly found the ship and removed the books, then she was lucky enough to find someone who gave her directions. Even better, it was directions to the correct library. She managed not to get lost, too.

Goose set out to complete the task, only managing to get slightly lost on the way and made it to the library in relatively good time.

Richie had retrieved the book without much trouble. Unfortunately his sense of direction seemed to be failing him today and he ended up walking in a very big circle for way too long before finally making his way to the library.

Navigating around a foreign city where you didn't understand the language, couldn't read the writing, and didn't have a map? SO not going to happen.

Squall grabbed one of the longshoremen who seemed to be familiar with the whole concept of what the class was doing, and showed him five shiny gold gil that he'd pulled out of his pocket. He handed one to the man and gestured at the books, indicating that he'd get the other four when they got to the library.

The man stared at the coin, and looked it over, and then took off like a shot, guiding Squall down alleyways and across rooftops. When Squall saw that he'd arrived at the library way ahead of anyone else, he grinned and gave the man ten gil.

See Warren.

See Warren show up, look around to see everyone else there, and bury his face in his hand.

"Oh god."

What you couldn't see, thanks to the magic in the bracelet that Karla had given him so that he could hide his wings, was the fact that he'd pretty much draped his wings over his head in a futile effort to hide behind those, too. Not so effective, when they were invisible.
