Sex And Candy, Wednesday, Second Period

Cindy had left a note on the classroom door telling the students to head up to the Danger Shop. As the students arrived, they would see that it had been programmed to look like a beautiful garden. A closer examination would show that everything in the garden was edible--more than simply edible, even. Much of it was candy. Spun-sugar flowers decorated the path. The bark of the trees might be made of candied peppermint, or peanut brittle, or simple chocolate. Even the 'dirt' was made of crumbled cookie pieces, with gummy worms burrowing through. Colorful rocks were little pieces of hard candy and the weeping willow dangled branches of thin caramel over the path. The apple tree was growing candy apples, of every different variety, and the tiny lemon tree gushed lemonade when the bark was cut.

Today, class was held in a garden full of moddable candy and treats.

A really sharp observer might notice that there was no sign of Cindy.

Raven was still feeling depressed, and even the garden couldn't bring her spirits up. She looked around but didn't eat anything; she had no appetite.

Claudia knew this one. They'd covered it in Hook's class with the giant green cake. No way was she eating any of that candy until a teacher came out and said it was safe. She was peering close at it though, trying to work out how such a place would work in the real world. It'd all melt at the first sign of humidity, for one thing.

Squall looked around, trying to figure out what the point of this was. He'd thought the course title was metaphorical, and they were going to be talking about literature.

Whatever.

He avoided eating anything -- not just because he wasn't really the candy sort of person, and not just because it all looked suspicious, but also because he was worried someone might take the FIRST half of the course title literally as well and he didn't want to have to deal with that.

Despite certain stories about witches, Elphaba actually found that all these sugary sweets around made her teeth ache. So while walking in this Wonka Wonderland, she did not eat anything. Though it did have her very curious.

Mercy? Had grown up with way too many stories about the fae to taste anything here. She did wander about looking at things and discreetly sniffing at it.

It might be cheating or missing the point of the class, but Cally was going to follow Dolf's lead when it came to eating local flora and fauna, and not try anything on her own, thank you.

When it came to eating local architecture, she was going to follow common sense, which led to much the same conclusion.

Juliet wanted the candy very badly, but she wouldn't eat any. She didn't know where it came from, and she remembered what had happened to Hansel & Gretel or their meta equivalents. Sure, they got away in the end -- but housework until you shoved a witch in her oven? She'd pass.

As tempting as the candy was, it wasn't like it was real. Alex restrained himself, even though he looked like he really wanted to nibble on one of those chocolate trees over there.

But if this was the candy, he was wondering what the 'sex' part of the class would be like, and this distracted him enough to prevent chewing on the landscape.

Ramona wandered the garden, thinking of that movie with the kids in the candy factory -- not the crappy remake, the good one from the '70s -- where this exact thing had happened.

And nothing bad had happened to those kids. Moody or not, she was going to take a leaf, at least.

Billy was amazed by what kind of environment the Danger Shop could produce, and although the word "danger" was part of the room's title, he still couldn't resist picking a flower off of its stem to see how it would taste.

Warren couldn't help but find himself enthralled with the contents of the garden, looking around up-close and personal before taking off to get himself a birds-eye of the whole she-bang.

Candy. All of that, candy.

He didn't eat anything, busy circling around overhead and trying to memorize all the little details that he could. It was entirely possible that he was trying to figure out how to duplicate that on the Worthington bill.

David was just a little too cautious to go ahead and not only eat candy that had been on the ground, but candy that was part of the ground. No thank you. He was just going to wander around and check things out.

Okay, so, the big garden full of candy had huge red flags all over it. At the same time, she was dead. And maybe it was some kind of a psych-out about how paranoid people were, that they wouldn't even snack on free candy because it might be dangerous or some shit.

More importantly: it was candy. George liked candy, so she was going to be snacking as she explored. If it turned out to be poisonous, well, fuck it. It wasn't like she could die (again).

Raven tensed at Cindy's entrance, but relaxed when she saw it was only their teacher. She took a seat obediently, and when it came to be her turn, she said, "My name is Raven, and I will be a senior this fall. I am unfamiliar with fairy tales, though I have studied mythology in the past."

Yep, Claudia totally called that one. She might actually have to thank Captain Hook.

"I'm Claudia Donovan," she said. "I guess I'm a senior, now? And, uh. I don't know how much it counts, but I loved the stories about Matthew and Maria Looney. They're people from the moon." That made them fairy tale-ish, right?

"Because it could be poisoned, or had just gone bad, and children wouldn't know which," Scully said with a sigh, medical training kicking in. "In earlier times, food sterilization was minimal at best. Louis Pasteur's techniques were centuries in the future. Knowing what was safe to eat would have been intensely important, and until then, they'd need to check with their parents."
