Sex And Candy, Wednesday, Second Period

Cindy had left a note on the classroom door telling the students to head up to the Danger Shop. As the students arrived, they would see that it had been programmed to look like a beautiful garden. A closer examination would show that everything in the garden was edible--more than simply edible, even. Much of it was candy. Spun-sugar flowers decorated the path. The bark of the trees might be made of candied peppermint, or peanut brittle, or simple chocolate. Even the 'dirt' was made of crumbled cookie pieces, with gummy worms burrowing through. Colorful rocks were little pieces of hard candy and the weeping willow dangled branches of thin caramel over the path. The apple tree was growing candy apples, of every different variety, and the tiny lemon tree gushed lemonade when the bark was cut.

Today, class was held in a garden full of moddable candy and treats.

A really sharp observer might notice that there was no sign of Cindy.

Cally's mouth pursed in a wry twist. "Perhaps 'you can't please everyone, no matter how hard you try?' At the dawn of time, there were seven gods who discovered the planet Auron, and on it left the first man and woman. The gods returned over a million years later, no older than when they left. They were so pleased with what the Auronar had done to steward the planet and build a cooperative society that they bestowed many gifts on us: new types of crops, which ended hunger, constant peace, and the promise of great mental powers in the future."

Since she'd met some of the people in Fandom, Cally's opinion of 'great' when applied to her own powers had turned a bit cynical, but she still agreed with the general idea.

"But one of the gods was very jealous. He didn't believe that the people of Auron deserved all this, and was frightened they would one day become so powerful they would challenge the supremacy of the gods themselves. In his rage, he killed another god. The five remaining gods were so angry, they built a chariot for him and sent him beyond the threshold of space and time. The mad god swore a terrible vengeance. He said that he would return again, that he alone would discover the eternal secrets and become the one great master of the universe."

"And do your myths say he came back?" Cindy asked, very interested now. "Or is his return something your people are supposed to watch for?"

"The latter." If there was a bit of a scoff there, well. For one, it was highly unlikely that there'd been humanoid life on Auron a million years ago, and two... one's own fairytales are always more ridiculous sounding than other people's. "He's called the Thaarn; it's become our all-purpose word for darkness and evil, even long after we stop believing there were actually any gods."
