Outdoor Activities, Week 1, Monday 1

The students in Outdoor Activities should have gotten an handwavey e-mail or other handwavey notification if they couldn't read or receive e-mail the day before asking them to dress for the weather and movement, and to meet at the edge of the preserve behind the dorms.

When they arrived, they would find Mr. Rogers waiting for them, dressed in a t-shirt and track pants, looking bright and cheerful. He also had a whistle. The students were going to learn to hate that whistle. "Good morning!" he said. "I'm Steve Rogers, and I'll be your instructor this term in 'Outdoor Activities.' We're going to get our fitness levels up--" well, not Steve's; this sort of thing was like a stroll in the park for him "--and hopefully have some fun along the way. Today we're going to start with a warm-up run, followed by some exercises, then an activity, and then some more exercises before a cool-down jog back to the dorm. Does that sound like fun? Good," he said without waiting for an answer. His whistle peeped and he barked, "Fall in!" and ran off at a pace a teenager in reasonable fitness should be able to keep up with into the woods.

Sam didn't really mind being up early on purpose. Most of the time, nightmares got him up even earlier than this so it was nice to have a reason to be up.

Still, he had a feeling he was going to miss his skateboard during this class. Potato hockey and skateboarding were the only things he didn't entirely suck at.

Neither the girl nor the blue-eyed wolf standing beside her (larger than a normal wolf, coming nearly to her shoulder), had any reason to complain about the early hour. They were, however, going to spend the time before the teacher spoke to peer around at their fellow students curiously.

Mercy was cursing Bran and Charles under her breath. Two fitness classes in one day? And it's not like she wasn't in good shape already. She could outrun any werewolf in her coyote form - not that she was shifting, but still.

And part of her could just hear Charles' voice saying, 'And we intend you to stay in good shape.'

Butters, as could be expected, was filled with a delicate blend of nervousness and excitement that had him fidgeting an awful lot. His eyes darted around to his other students as his mind was a flurry of possibilities. His first workshop! There had to be some clue in there as to why he was here, as to what he'd done wrong. Outdoor Activities. Boy, maybe it was just something ot help him be more of a man! Yeah, that sounded about right! He needed to be more manly, and so that's why his parents sent him here, to, you know, be manly and outdoorsy and stuff.

That really didn't explain the girls in the class, though, but, hey, girls could be manly, too.

Tony would just be over here. Grumbling about already working on fitness. Next time he was going to pick his own classes instead of letting Mrs. Rhodes do it.

Even if she was a bit intimidating about these things.

Squall wasn't HAPPY about the early hour, or the exercise, but it was exactly what he'd hoped for when he'd signed up, so he was glad for that.

He'd also deliberately left all his Guardian Forces unjunctioned for the class, because he wanted to see how he did WITHOUT superhuman strength, speed, and stamina.

Marshall was silently cursing his parents unto the nth generation -- although he had to admit even if just to himself that this was probably a class he could get something out of.

If he lived that long.

Billy hadn't been surprised that his parents had picked early workshops for him, nor was he surprised that they'd picked at least one workshop that was outdoorsy and athletic. He was, however, having some trouble not staring at their teacher, and wondering if maybe his parents knew more than they'd let on. Surely he hadn't ended up in a class with Captain America by accident.

Honestly, neither Firekeeper nor Blind Seer was going to complain about being asked to run. And so run they did.

Sam figured he could do this without falling down and dying. He'd been beaten, bruised and tortured lately so a little run wouldn't kill him. Of course, as soon as he started running, he really wished he would have stretched more.

Running. This she could do. Easily.

Butters was not one to complain; on the scale of terrible things he'd had to do, running was actually quite nice. He kept a steady pace, singing a little ditty to himself as he did so.

"And I ra-aa-an, I ran so far a-waa-a-ayy..."

Running so wasn't Billy's thing - he was pretty sure there was a reason he could fly, thank you very much - but he tried his best to keep up.

Re: Exercises

[identity profile] kestrelswolf.livejournal.com 2011-05-09 11:35 am (UTC)(link)
Though Firekeeper had been one of the ones at the front of the group for the running, for this activity she was a few moments behind, having to take the time to see what everyone else did before mimicking it.

Blind Seer just sat and looked on with interest. He couldn't really do any of the exercises, after all.

Okay, this class was not going to be like those slacker physical education classes he'd taken back in elementary school. There wasn't going to be any standing around and pretending you had a sore leg and couldn't do the activity.

Sam dropped down and managed to get through the push ups decently. The jumping jacks came a little slower and the crunches even slower than that. He was so out of shape and couldn't do a thing to hide that.

Mercy did the exercises easily, darting glances at the big wolf nearby. He wasn't a werewolf, but...

[identity profile] hoorayimrich.livejournal.com 2011-05-09 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Steve. How he hated you now. With every fiber of his teenage being.

"Already did this," Tony grumbled, doing as instructed. Damn you, Mr. Rogers!

Firekeeper snagged a bottle of water to share between herself and Blind Seer, and then spoke:

"I am Blysse, and he, Blind Seer," she gestured to the extremely large wolf by her side, who nodded in acknowledgment at his name. "We come here from Misheemnekuru, but grow up in Iron Mountains. We is here because we enjoy outside." There. That was enough, right?

Totally still mean.

After class was over, Tony stuck around to very carefully watch Mr. Rogers. Because there was new information to assimilate into everything. "Did that other me have any kids?"
