Outdoor Activities, Week 1, Monday 1

The students in Outdoor Activities should have gotten an handwavey e-mail or other handwavey notification if they couldn't read or receive e-mail the day before asking them to dress for the weather and movement, and to meet at the edge of the preserve behind the dorms.

When they arrived, they would find Mr. Rogers waiting for them, dressed in a t-shirt and track pants, looking bright and cheerful. He also had a whistle. The students were going to learn to hate that whistle. "Good morning!" he said. "I'm Steve Rogers, and I'll be your instructor this term in 'Outdoor Activities.' We're going to get our fitness levels up--" well, not Steve's; this sort of thing was like a stroll in the park for him "--and hopefully have some fun along the way. Today we're going to start with a warm-up run, followed by some exercises, then an activity, and then some more exercises before a cool-down jog back to the dorm. Does that sound like fun? Good," he said without waiting for an answer. His whistle peeped and he barked, "Fall in!" and ran off at a pace a teenager in reasonable fitness should be able to keep up with into the woods.

Though Firekeeper had been one of the ones at the front of the group for the running, for this activity she was a few moments behind, having to take the time to see what everyone else did before mimicking it.

Blind Seer just sat and looked on with interest. He couldn't really do any of the exercises, after all.

Okay, this class was not going to be like those slacker physical education classes he'd taken back in elementary school. There wasn't going to be any standing around and pretending you had a sore leg and couldn't do the activity.

Sam dropped down and managed to get through the push ups decently. The jumping jacks came a little slower and the crunches even slower than that. He was so out of shape and couldn't do a thing to hide that.

Mercy did the exercises easily, darting glances at the big wolf nearby. He wasn't a werewolf, but...

Oh, Steve. How he hated you now. With every fiber of his teenage being.

"Already did this," Tony grumbled, doing as instructed. Damn you, Mr. Rogers!

Squall was sorely disappointed by how tired he was -- although he wasn't sure if he'd actually gone soft, or if he'd just gotten too used to stat boosts from the Guardian Forces.

He wasn't tired enough that the exercises were anything like a challenge, though.

"Only twenty?"

Squall shrugged, as much as it was possible to shrug with both his hands on the ground supporting his weight. "Whatever."

Butters fell into line and into the exercises easily, with an almost enthusiastic cheerfulness. He felt that helped; if you made something fun, well, then, it was fun!

And fun was better than the other alternative, which was picturing that Mr. Rogers was his father telling him that if he didn't drop and give him twenty, he'd be grounded.

Billy didn't mind doing the exercises on the ground, because it made for a decently comfortable place for him to crash when they were done. This workshop was going to be harder than it had sounded, that was for sure.
