The students in Outdoor Activities should have gotten an ~~handwavey~~ e-mail ~~or other handwavey notification if they couldn't read or receive e-mail~~ the day before asking them to dress for the weather and movement, and to meet at the edge of the preserve behind the dorms.

When they arrived, they would find Mr. Rogers waiting for them, dressed in a t-shirt and track pants, looking bright and cheerful. He also had a whistle. The students were going to learn to hate that whistle. "Good morning!" he said. "I'm Steve Rogers, and I'll be your instructor this term in 'Outdoor Activities.' We're going to get our fitness levels up--" well, not Steve's; this sort of thing was like a stroll in the park for him "--and hopefully have some fun along the way. Today we're going to start with a warm-up run, followed by some exercises, then an activity, and then some more exercises before a cool-down jog back to the dorm. Does that sound like fun? Good," he said without waiting for an answer. His whistle peeped and he barked, "Fall in!" and ran off at a pace a teenager in reasonable fitness should be able to keep up with into the woods.

Were you tired yet? Regretting signing up for this? Wondering what the hell the activity could be and dreading finding out? Well, relax.

"Okay, no," Steve said, relaxing his shoulders and smiling at the class. "I don't have another activity for you today. I will next week, though, probably an obstacle course, so, consider yourselves warned. I just wanted everyone to see what they were getting themselves into. I take this seriously, and you will have some fun in this class, but you will also work hard. What we just did? That will be the beginning of every class, and I consider that letting you off pretty light. So, now you know. Moving right along:

"Before we head back, I'd like everyone to get in a circle and introduce yourselves, say where you're from, and why you're in this class. Sound good? Good." He didn't peep on the whistle this time.

He did, however, drag a cooler out from behind a tree and open it to reveal water bottles. "And if anyone wants water, it's here, and I have a bag for empties. We're lucky it's so cool out." Iceland had its uses.

Firekeeper snagged a bottle of water to share between herself and Blind Seer, and then spoke:

"I am Blysse, and he, Blind Seer," she gestured to the extremely large wolf by her side, who nodded in acknowledgment at his name. "We come here from Misheemnekuru, but grow up in Iron Mountains. We is here because we enjoy outside." There. That was enough, right?

Sam plucked up a bottle of water gratefully and chugged it before he got to his introduction.

"Sam LaCroix from Seattle," he said, nodding at everyone. "I'm used to using a skateboard to get around or if it's raining like it often does in Seattle, a car. Figured I should get into better shape. I may have to run from some things in the future."

May nothing, he knew he'd have to run.

"My name is Mercedes Thompson and I'm from Portland, Oregon. Someone else signed me up for this class."

Yes, still darting glances at the wolf.

And that wolf was going to tilt his head to stare right back at her, quietly remarking to Firekeeper with a twitch of his tail on how she didn't smell entirely human. Firekeeper gave a short nod of agreement, waiting to see if the girl felt like explaining herself. They'd been here long enough to know that some people wanted to keep their secrets.

When there was a quiet moment when people didn't seem to be paying attention, Mercy took a moment to nod respectfully to Blind Seer and quietly say to Blysse. "Could I maybe talk to the two of you later? Somewhere... out of the way?"

"After class, we could go more into Preserve?" Firekeeper suggested, with a nod towards the trees. She knew these woods well, and if need be could intimidate the squirrels into staying away.

Mercy nodded. "I'd like that. Thank you."

[ooc: Sure! I can stick up a post later and you can tag in whenever you get a chance!]

Tony clung to his water bottle like a little security blanket, fiddling with the label as he spoke.

"My name is Tony Stark, I'm from New York and Mrs. Rhodes signed me up for all my classes."

Someone thought Mr. Rogers was a good influence. Someone was also cruel.

Mercy gave him an understanding glance. "Same here."

(Hooray. Introductions.)

"Squall Leonhart. You've never heard of where I'm from. I'm here to stay in shape."

And, since he was trying to be nicer to people, he gave everyone an awkward smile.

Despite the fact that he was a little out of breath, Butters was riding on an adrenaline rush from all the activity, which left him still bouncing as he took a bottle of water, had a big swig, and then eagerly introduced himself.

"H-hey, everybody!" he said. "My name's Butters, and I'm from South Park. That's in Colorado. I'm takin' this class, well, because my parents signed me up for it, I guess. I think they want me to be more of a man and to stay in shape."

"I'm Marshall," he began, after taking a few sips of water. He was pretty sure he remembered reading about that -- don't try to drink too much all at once when you're dehydrated.

A few more sips, and he continued: "I'm from Canada. Uh, Ontario, just outside of Ottawa. I'm here 'cause my parents signed me up for courses before even telling me I was coming," and no, that wasn't any residual bitterness at all, "but of course I'm going to try my hardest since I'm here!"

Or something.

"I'm Billy Kaplan, and I'm from New York," he said, wondering how many people might already know that. "I'm here because my parents signed me up for this. I think they were worried I'd spend all summer sitting around otherwise."

"Mr. Kaplan," Steve said in acknowledgment. "How have you been?"

It was all Billy could do to not flail with fanboyish glee, if only because other people were around to witness it. It helped that Mr. Rogers had worn him out. "I've been all right. Trying to adjust to being here. This place is kind of one surprise after another," he said. "Um, how are you?"

"Yes, it can be a bit much at first, even if you think you're used to this sort of thing," Steve said wryly. "When I first arrived here, the school had just exploded. If you ever need to talk to someone who won't think your universe is insane, I hold regular office hours," he offered. "And I've been...well enough."

"I, uh, might take you up on that." Because he could totally be in that office and not freak out, surely. "Well enough doesn't sound really good, for the record."

Steve shrugged. "I like my work. It's just hard being retired sometimes." Especially when the island kept making it impossible for him to stay retired. "How are your friends?"

"They're good." Although they'd be better if they didn't have to feel like outlaws when they got into costume, but somehow, he didn't think that comment would go over well. "I don't think any of us are happy that I got sent here, but we'll figure out a way to make it work, I think."

Billy knew Steve's feelings on teenagers in costume. Could he feel the disapproving frown lurking behind Steve's polite smile? Could he? "Well," he said. "You'll certainly leave here more prepared for...anything, really. I hope my class can contribute to that."
