BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

Daemon had taken Surreal to one of the Gates, asked her not to stab anyone on her first day, told her to be respectful of another Realm's cultures, and pushed her through.

Daemon, Surreal reflected, was an ass.

She wanted to bolt. Or stab something. This....city was strange and she didn't know what to make of the people and their clothing. But she found a corner in the lounge and slung down her sack, taking a seat next to it and repeatedly calling and vanishing one of her stilettos to help calm her nerves.

Alex watched the girl who appeared to have a vanishing knife for a moment before cautiously approaching and saying, "Uh, hi?"

The blade vanished again, and she gave him an equally cautious look. "Hey. You going to the school too?"

She was trying for polite! Now Daemon couldn't growl too much about her attitude.

"I am," Alex confirmed. He didn't offer his hand to shake because he didn't want to lose fingers, but he said, "I'm Alex. Magic trick, or is that an actual vanishing knife?"

"Magic," Surreal answered, slightly confused. "How else would I vanish it?"

There were so many possibilities. "I don't know, science? Sleight of hand?"

Surreal snorted. "Slight of hand would be me stealing your wallet," she informed him cheerily. "But I had to promise to behave, so it's safe for today."

...Right, Jocelyn couldn't keep her eyes off the knife even if she told herself it was better to ignore it. "What kind of knife is it?" she asked finally. Which was a better question than if the girl was a warlock.

"Stiletto (http://www.aceros-de-hispania.com/image/battle-ready-sword/1137-historical-stiletto.JPG)," she said, calling it in once again and flipping it over to offer it handle-first. "Safety first, right?"

No, Surreal, most people did not play with sharp things to make themselves feel safe.

Jocelyn took the knife with a smile, flipping it to feel its weight. "Nice. Guessing you didn't go through security either." She handed the stiletto back slightly reluctantly. She so needed one of those.

Angelica was mostly keeping to herself unless someone spoke to her, but she couldn't help but notice the appearing and disappearing blade. Was it just a trick or was she some sort of mutant? "How are you doing that?" she had to ask.

Did Sadi send her to school with a bunch of landens or something? Half-Bloods?

"Magic?" she said, in a 'duh' tone of voice. "How else?"

"Like pulling a rabbit out of a hat or sawing people in half?" Angelica asked carefully.

Surreal looked utterly horrified. "Why would I saw someone in half?" she asked. "I can think of eight easier ways to kill them right now."

Well that was one way to get Annie's attention. She watched for a moment to make sure she was seeing this whole vanishing thing, and then said very eloquently, "Um."

Surreal just stared back, and kept flipping it. Up, down, vanish. Call, up, down, vanish. If the girl wasn't going to say anything, it wasn't her job to start a conversation.

Annie watched for a moment, and finally had to ask, "How are you doing that?"

There had to be a trick or something.

Damian watched the girl for a few minutes and then approached her. "If you are traveling to Fandom Island, you had better put that away. I've been informed that weapons are not permitted."

Surreal just stared at him. "You have got to be kidding."

There'd been classes more suited to violence than academics on that list Daemon had made! She'd seen it!

"My source is very well-informed," Damian told her.

"Well, no one told my source, so they're more than welcome to try and take it from me," Surreal answered, her smile slightly more nasty as she vanished it again. "I'm not giving up my weapons on the say-so of some child."

"Tt! I didn't say you should. Concealment would be the wiser route," Damian said. "If you're capable of keeping secrets."

Surreal just spread her arms and beamed. "Conceal what?"

She'd just vanished the other two blades that were in her boots at the same time, so anyone who checked her for weapons wouldn't find a thing.

"O-oh, boy," said Butters, looking at the scary looking girl with the knife, his fingers all but tangling themselves up in each other. "You better be careful with that; you might poke someone's eye out."

Like his. He'd had it happen once before; he'd prefer not have it happen again.

"I already promised not to stab anyone today," Surreal replied, rolling her eyes. "So I won't poke you until tomorrow."

Charming. Really.
