BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"I don't think Nicholas would tell my dad to send me to a slave labor camp, so you're probably safe," Alex said, trying to be reassuring.

"Yeah, but adults are morons," Stan replied, speaking from so much experience dealing with it.

"That's true sometimes," Alex agreed. "But not my dad! Except for that whole Osborn thing. And Nicholas isn't most of the time either."

"Is Nicholas your... other dad?" Stan wasn't judging!

Alex stared at Stan like he thought he might be crazy for a moment before telling him, "No."

"Dude, homophobia's not cool."

And now he was looking at him like he was even crazier. "What?"

"I mean, it's okay if they are." Everyone was very lucky that Stan wasn't aware of Marvel. "As long as no one does anything fucked up with a gerbil."

Poor, poor Lemmiwinks.

"...a gerbil." Even if Alex's dad was...doing things...with Nicholas (and something in Alex's brain just went POP), Alex seriously doubted a gerbil would be involved. "Nicholas is like. My boss. Sort of."

"Oh." Stan nodded. "Okay. That makes more sense."

"Yes," Alex agreed. "It does." Because it was true, unlike Stan's theory, which only was true in the minds of certain deluded people on the parts of the internet Alex wasn't supposed to go to yet.

Deluded people were everywhere.

"So..."

This got awkward.

"So where are you from?" Alex offered.

Oh thank god. "South Park, Colorado. It's by Denver. You?"

"New York. The Bronx. New Jersey before that." By way of Olympus. Um.

"...Jersey?"

"Yes?" Alex asked innocently.

"You don't have any weird urges to say 'It's a Jersey thing', right?" Because then he'd need to find a gun.

"No," Alex said, "no, I don't think I've ever said that in my life. We only lived there while I was a little kid, though." And then Alex had done most of his growing up to date while he was a prisoner of war being Stockholmed by a crazy Japanese god of evil, yay! Except not so yay.

It could have somehow been worse!

"Good." Stan was still giving him a sideways look. Just in case. "We had a bad experience with Jersey back home."

"I thought you were from Colorado."

"Yeah, Jersey invaded." A beat. "It was apparently a Jersey thing."

Alex wasn't ruling out some kind of insane Jersey invasion he just hadn't heard about, maybe while he'd been kidnapped or dead, because in his universe stranger things had happened but, "But there's like half a country between Colorado and New Jersey."

"They got that far into the country," Stan replied seriously. "Luckily we stopped it."

Or maybe this kid was delusional. "Well, good for you guys!" Alex said, trying to sound encouraging.
