BWI Portalocity Terminal [Saturday Morning]

Emma had flown with Angelica from Logan Airport in Boston to Baltimore so she wouldn't have to make the entire trip alone, and Angelica was grateful for that. But after a hug goodbye when the time came for Emma's flight back to Massachusetts, Angelica was alone in the lounge, waiting for the bus to Fandom High. She buried her face in a book and tried not to be too nervous about changing schools, counting out the positives. She might make new friends. Empath and Roulette wouldn't be there. She might accidentally fry someone with her microwave powers.

Oooookay, that last one wasn't too positive.

"Tell me about it," Mercy said quietly.

"Weeeellll," Jack drawled, "Let's see. Zits. Trigonometry. Do I really need to go past trigonometry? Because I'm tearing up at the thought of it."

"Oh now, those are cheerful thoughts," Mercy said, shaking her head. "I hadn't even considered trigonometry. Thanks."

"Unfortunately there's no Noxema for trig," Jack replied. "Because I'd like to make that homework disappear."

He held out his hand for a handshake.

"Jack Carter."

She hesitated then took his hand. "Mercedes Thompson. I'd say it's nice to meet you, but I'm not sure yet with all this talk of trig and pimples."

"Yeah, well get to know me a little better and you'll probably be sorry you met me," Jack joked.

"Ditto," Mercy said with a smile.

"Well see? That's a horrible way to start a relationship," Jack continued to joke. Hey there was theme going. He was rolling with it. "Shall we make a pact not to be speaking to each other by the end of the bus ride?"

"Do you think we'd manage to be that lucky?" Mercy teased back.

"Well I'm a truly awful person," Jack said with a firm nod. "Probably the biggest jackass you ever met."

Mercy laughed. "Sorry, but there's not a chance in the world of that!"

She'd grown up with a bunch of dominant werewolves after all.

"Oh, I'm pretty good at it," Jack said. "You'd be surprised."

"You, uh... don't know the people I grew up with," Mercy said with a grin. "But you're welcome to try."

"Well my first move is to leave the toilet seat up but I don't think that's going to happen here."

"Now that's a shooting offense," Mercy said as dead-pan as she could manage.
