Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Jason let out a sharp whistle. "Giiiiiiiiirl, those are some legs."

In Bon Temps, that totally worked.

Whereas Karla's hands flew to the hem in a futile effort to make the skirt cover more skin.

Stupid heartfelt gestures. They always got her in trouble.

Beet-red, she glanced over to see who was catcalling. Aaaand, yeah. Jason Stackhouse. She recognized him from the brief time he also attended Fandom. He'd tried to take her usual greeting at face value. "Before you say anything more, I should probably tell you I'm one of Sookie's close friends," she said.

Maybe that would work?

"In that case, me and you should be gettin' better acquainted," Jason decided.

That was so not how that was supposed to have worked. For serious.

"I already know a version of you," Karla tried instead. "He came to Fandom for a little while. So we're probably good?"

"Nah, I'm sure I'm better," Jason decided. "After all I'm me!"

Jason was not really clear on how the many versions of people thing worked, no.

"Well, he's you, too," Karla pointed out. "Except for how he's also him and--never mind, this is a conversation that probably can't go anywhere good."

Karla had just imagined explaining temporal mechanics to the Jason she'd known and realized just how futile that would be.

"I don't normally wear skirts this short," she said instead. "I prefer long skirts. Down to my feet. And pants. Lots of pants."

There was even a rule about them!

"Why?" Jason asked. "You have great legs."

And now Karla was blushing even harder. "Because where I'm from, skirts this short are indecent? I'm only wearing it because Sookie and Emma have nagged at me about that for forever and I thought this might make them smile."

While she died of embarrassment foreeeever.

"And, uh, thank you?"

"You're super welcome, but I'm telling you what every guy here's gonna be thinking," Jason replied.

And that would certainly help with the self-consciousness!

Jason sure knew how to set a girl at ease. Really.

"I reeeeeeally don't think so," Karla said, shaking her head and tugging at her skirt again. "Fandom has no shortage of gorgeous females and everyone's attention is probably up on the stage with the graduates and I'm really okay with that."

Babble harder, Karla.

"You can't see much in those robes," Jason pointed out.

"That's not stopping you from trying, is it?" Karla asked dryly.

Of course not.

"Sure it is!" Jason said defensively.

Uh-huh. Suuuuure. This was Karla's 'believing you' face.

"I just kind of want to pat you on the head," Karla said. "No one's going to believe that, you know."

"Why not?" Jason demanded a little whinily. "I'm a real believable guy!"

"Not when you're trying to convince someone you're not checking people out," Karla deadpanned.

"Not people," Jason replied. "Girls."
