Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2011, Saturday Early Evening - Part One!

The ceremony was once again held at sunset for the benefit of the graduates’ less diurnal guests, but the lawn was well-lit with twinkling blue and gold lights draped across bleachers, stage, surrounding trees and specially-assembled trellises, giving the overall effect of a peaceful fairy grove. (Not, say, Las Vegas. Tasteful twinkling lights.)

The staff having taken note of every previous graduation including the most recent, the lights had been purchased from Acme Decorations Studio with a money-back No Coming To Life And Terrorizing Your Party Guests Guarantee... and there was a rather large cache of weapons stashed in a trunk behind the podium. The chance that it would rain toys that could later be used for self-defense was slightly less than the chance that there would be a need for self-defense.

No one could say Fandom High wasn’t a learning experience.

Karla was another one who Claudine knew well from following Sookie for so long, and she made her way over to actually introduce herself. "It's a bittersweet occasion, isn't it?" she asked pleasantly as she approached. "You're happy for them, but they're going to leave."

"Exactly," Karla said, speaking before she turned to see exactly who was speaking to her. "I don't--oh." She paused a moment and blinked. "You're not human, are you?"

Err. That was hardly polite. Way to be blunt, Karla.

At least her expression suggested she realized the faux-pas as she said it? Like the way her hand lifted up, almost as if she were trying to catch the words again.

"I mean--Hell's fire. Hi, I'm Karla and I'm tactless."

Claudine actually let out a snort of laughter, covering her mouth with a hand delicately. "I'm Claudine, and I knew that, and you're right, though do me a favor and try to keep that from the charming and predatory Mr. Northman. He's on good behavior, I can tell, but I'd still rather keep my distance."

Karla glanced over towards Eric and grimaced. "I can do that," she said with a nod. Then the name and the fact that Claudine knew Eric clicked and Karla realized just who--or what--Claudine was. "Oh!" she said. "You're one of Sookie's relatives! From the other side of her, uhh, family!"

She offered Claudine a smile. "It'll mean a lot to Sookie to have you here."

Claudine's smile turned a little self-conscious. "She doesn't quite know I'm coming, but His Highness couldn't make it. And Sookie's always been my charge, so I ought to come, and make my presence known, for once. And it only seemed right to introduce myself to a few of her friends." She considered Karla for a moment, tilting her head. "You were one of the ones who pulled her back to this world last year, weren't you?"

Karla nodded. "Yes. And I've stepped in and helped a few times. When things were getting a little overwhelming. She told me about you, back before she knew the whole story."

Karla hadn't trusted Claudine's intentions then. She still didn't entirely trust them now, but that was just because of Karla's own personal trust issues. That wasn't going to stop her from being everything that was gracious, especially after her failed beginning.

"Shall I let you surprise her, then?" she asked.

"If you don't mind," Claudine said with a small shrug. "Hopefully this will be a much more peaceful visit than my last few with her. I don't want her to start associating me -- or our people -- with danger."
glacial_queen: (I give up)

"At least it's danger where you remain fully dressed," Karla said with a sigh. And then winced. "So, yeah, everytime you've sorta seen me? I don't normally dress like that, I promise."

And then looked down at her skirt and winced harder. "No, really, I don't. This is...Mother Night, I give up."

Claudine hid a smile, and offered, "I think you look lovely, but then, fairy dress codes aren't quite the same as human ones."
glacial_queen: (Shyish)

"Thank you," Karla said, flushing a bit and tugging on her hemline anyway. "In my world, we wear corsets without a problem, but showing off this much leg is pretty indecent. Back home, people would think I was a Red Moon House worker."

Claudine could probably pick up the context. Unless fairies didn't have whores? Huh.

"What are fairy dress codes like?" Claudine's dress looked pretty nice...

Claudine considered her words carefully. "Fairly optional, in general. We wear clothes to feel beautiful or express ourselves, but we just as easily don't, if the mood strikes. We're not quite as modest as humans, usually."
glacial_queen: (Say What?)

Yep. There went that idea of maybe going to the fairies for a dress. Or a visit.

"...You should probably warn Sookie about that before she takes an extended vacation there," Karla said, showing off her fancy new diplomacy skills.
