After there was a ~~so damn handwavey~~ announcement for that Ethics class of Skywalker’s to join them today, there might have been a few new faces. This could only bode well for all the students. Really now.

Really.

“Hello, all,” John began, as jovially as he could, “We... have been speaking to professor Skywalker about our efforts here, and we thought it might be a good idea to, er, team up. To teach you all about childcare.”

“As he is the expert,” Sherlock chimed in dryly. Because that was helpful today.

Anakin glared at Sherlock. “Ethics class has traditionally worked with droid babies to teach you the downside of lust combined with ineffective birth control. Pairing up our classes seemed logical.” Until he remembered he’d be working with Sherlock.

John discretely maneuvered himself between Anakin and Sherlock. Discretely. “Right. So we’ve talked about pregnancy, and about everything that happens when you’re pregnant. As well as birth control,” he continued. “This is just the next step. We want you to take care of these babies until next Monday.” He smiled. Or tried to. “I... hope you all kept the folders we gave you.”

“And if you neglected to prepare,” Sherlock began with a faint smile. “Well. I suppose now would be the time to research. Wouldn’t you?”

“As well as you can, at least,” Anakin grumbled. “Children don’t come with owner’s manuals.” He’d checked. “The droid babies will react like any other child: you can’t leave them alone for even a minute, they’ll demand food, dry bottoms, naps and to be held and babbled at. If they don’t get what they want, they’ll cry.”

Loudly. For hours.

“And no one wants that,” said John. Who didn’t have any kids. And never really expected to have any. “So take good care of them. We’ll know if you don’t.”

… And he suspected that between his two co-conspirators, that was kind of terrifyingly true.

Jason took the robobaby and held it carefully at arms length. "I can't believe they're making us do this," he said. "Wouldn't it be enough to just tell us not to have sex?"

"It's totally enough for me. At least until I get married." Momoko blinked a moment at the baby in Jason's grip. She motioned to take the droid from him. "Uhm, you don't have any experience with kids, do you?"

"Not really," Jason said sheepishly, gladly handing the baby over. "I'm an only child and...well, I've been around little kids, but not babies."

"I remember some stuff from when my sister was little." Like, don't hold the baby at arm's length. She pulled the droid close and peered into his face. "But it's been, like, 12 years. Uhm, what's his name?"

"I think we have to come up with a name ourselves. Do you have any boys' names you like?" Jason asked. "I think I'm very willing to compromise here."

Momoko definitely had one boy's name that she liked, but that was probably not the proper thing to name Jason's baby after her boyfriend. Although the idea was totally appealing.

She took a moment to watch the baby and try to think of a good name, catching a small glint of light from the window reflect in it's eye... "Ah! Nikko! He totally looks like a Nikko! Doesn't he?" Momoko leaned in and bumped noses with 'Nikko'. "Hello, Nikko! Do you like that name? Can you say hello to mama, Nikko? Say hello!"

It probably wasn't proper to give the baby a name that was so close to the name of Jason's...boyfriend-like person either, but Momoko looked so sweet talking to the baby that Jason decided not to point that little issue out. "Nikko sounds good," he said, smiling at her. "You seem like you won't have a problem with this assignment."

Momoko looked back to Jason, still smiling. "I helped with my baby sister but I was only five, so I couldn't do a lot? But I totally like babies! And I think I did okay when the kids came that one weekend? I had three, and no one got badly hurt and only one ended up at the police station!"

Although they had all been all potty trained, could feed themselves, were sleeping through the night, and could express their needs through means other than screaming and crying. And she had Jaime helping.

"Neither of my kids ended up with the police, so I guess I didn't do too badly with them either," Jason said with a laugh. He'd nearly forgotten about the kids who'd shown up, and remembering them made him feel a little better about this. "Do you want to take turns taking care of him? That seems like the fairest way to do it."

"Well, it was totally because she was lost!" Momoko managed a small blush of embarrassment. "But yes, I think turns would be good! I mean, it's not like we can be together and raise Nikko like a real couple."

That whole, having boyfriends thing again, complicating matters.

"I have Rikku's science class tomorrow, before lunch. What's your schedule? Want to do whole days or daytime and night?"

"I don't have any classes tomorrow, so I could take him in the daytime," Jason said, trying not to sound too apprehensive. He didn't want Momoko to feel like she had to keep the baby for its safety. "We could try whole days? And if it's just too exhausting, we can switch off more?" He'd managed to take care of small children for a whole weekend, so a whole day couldn't be too bad, right?

Momoko didn't notice any apprehension in his voice at all. It was just a baby, right?

"Oh good! I mean, I don't mind taking Nikko to classes with me, but I don't know if there will be chemicals or explosions or stuff in that one." She was sure Rikku would excuse her if there was, but it was totally more fun if she didn't have to sit out. "So if you can take him tonight and tomorrow, I can watch him tomorrow night and take him to class with me on Wednesday!"

Don't ask why she thought a Deadpool class would be safer than Rikku's.

"I think that'll work," Jason said, after taking a bit of a deep breath. It really was nice to be paired up with someone he could work with so easily. Surely, the two of them would be able to pull this off now.

"Good!" Momoko smiled brightly, suddenly looking forward to the whole thing.

Then Nikko's face scrunched a little and there was a slight smell. "Uhm..." Momoko closed her eyes and sighed. "Please tell me the professors gave us diapers?"

Jason sniffed quickly, and made a face. "Uh, yeah, we got some. Why don't I, uh, take care of that?" Never let it be said that he couldn't be super nice sometimes.

Momoko hoped the relief didn't show on her face. She totally wasn't sure she remembered how to change a diaper! And was it different for boys?

"I'll help! That way when it's my turn I won't be doing it differently and he won't get upset!"
