Abnormal Psychology (10-27-05)

The classroom is painted dark green and there are deep red roses all over the room. Some are real, some are silk. Professor Drusilla is sitting at her desk, combing Miss Edith's hair and braiding it, then undoing it and starting all over again.

"No one wanted to discuss last time." Drusilla stares at the students. "Those who don't complete the entire assignment, written and verbal, shall fail. My new teaching assistant is going to introduce himself today.

On the board is written, "Tell me what you think of your parents. Do you like them? Do you dislike them? Did your daddy kill your mummy with a thousand little bites? One hundred words.

And if you don't discuss this time, you'll fail. Do you want to me to fail you and send you to detention?

There is a sign-in sheet on her desk.

There are also notes pinned to the board:

Missing Homework (10/20/05):

Jack O'Neill (excused)

Missing Attendance (10/20/05):

Dropped For Nonattendance:

OOC: Separate threads forthcoming. Also, as this is posted so late in the day, we'll go through the weekend on class posting.

Re: ESSAYS - TELL ME ABOUT YOUR MOTHER (AND YOUR FATHER)

My parents are very indulgent. Mother tends to play disciplinarian, but my brother and I are often allowed to get away with murder. Father dotes on us both, although we come from a family with many patriarchal traditions. My parents are, unfortunately, prone to outside influence, and often come up with various ways in which they can help us to ‘improve’ ourselves – such as public school and summer camp. Our parents expect certain standards of behavior, but Father tends to be more modern in his thinking than Mother does. It is Father, however, who reminds us constantly of our heritage.

My mother is a wonderful woman. She's very caring and would do anything to make sure I'm safe. She's done a lot for me. She's very strong and won't take crap from anybody. She's also a very powerful witch. Her family is very important in my world. She can be a little...harsh towards others. She's very family oriented so she's not too kind to people that aren't like us. But that doesn't bother me too much, she knows whats best for me.

My father is very demanding. But he only does it so I end up being strong. Or so he tells me. He used to be important but he got himself in a spot of trouble and was sent away. So now I don't hear from him a lot. And that's fine with me.

My parents have always been very important in my life. I should like to aquire the poise and grace of my mother as well as her subtlety and I try to live up to the standards of behavior which she insists upon. I should also like to find a way to express myself as freely as my father does, which leads to a certain amount of internal conflict.

"Yo. I'm Cameron Mitchell and I'll be the new teaching assistant for this class. I was in no way whatsoever coerced into doing this. I'm looking forward to working with you all and with Crazy Squid Lady our ever lovely professor Drusilla.

I uh... love F-16s, Thundercats rock and Sunshine likes steak. Any questions?"

My parents are both extremely boring. They're both doctors and were hoping for a girl. Instead, they got me. My mom wants me to be more social and spend more time with people my age. My dad doesn't even know how to turn a computer on. I spend as little time with them as possible. I do get along with my mom a bit better than my dad, because she at least tries to understand why I love computers so much. Dad thinks I'm weird for a sixteen year old boy. My younger sister mostly agrees with him on that.

I'm hoping to not become like my parents. I think that's enough shaping on their part.

Re: DISCUSSION

[identity profile] pure-blooddraco.livejournal.com 2005-10-27 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Both of my parents were a big influence on me. Lately I've been listen to my mother as my father is, ah, away. But before he went away my father was a role model to me. I followed in his footsteps and did my best to please him. Didn't work out too well since it turns out there was no way of pleasing him.

Well, he's gone now so I listen to my mum and aunt as much as I can. My mother just wants me to be safe and happy. I just hope I'll be able to keep my family's reputation in tact. I've got a lot to live up to.

I don't know who my father is. I haven't seen my mother in years. She sucked. In every sense of the word. I'm better off without her. Also, she wasn't big on the whole loving thing. Or the whole letting me have things I wanted, like a puppy. I have one now, though. But yeah, I kinda hate my mom. Thinking back, I guess I should hate my father too just on the general principle of suckiness. Of course, considering my mother's taste in men, which is worse than mine, I'm probably best off not having had that in my life.

Oz signs in and finds a seat to work on his essay about his parents. Yeah, like that's an easy topic for him.

[OOC: Boone has been dropped. Just can't keep up with three students and House, and Boone got the axe. I was hoping he'd be adopted, but he didn't. I'm going to drop him officially this weekend]

My adopted parents died recently so I guess that's made me have to look after myself and grow up faster despite what Geoff thinks, I don't really know much about my real parents though so I can't really comment there

I don’t remember my mom very well. She was nice, I remember that. She used to read to me. I remember crawling in her lap, I remember she used to hum and sing and kiss my face. She called me Danny, sometimes.

I started calling myself “Oz” after she died. I felt like it was a new phase of my life, even though I was only seven, and my name seemed a good way to mark it.

My dad never had time for me. Especially after Mom died. He remarried, and my step mom wanted nothing to do with me.
