Abnormal Psychology (10-27-05)

The classroom is painted dark green and there are deep red roses all over the room. Some are real, some are silk. Professor Drusilla is sitting at her desk, combing Miss Edith's hair and braiding it, then undoing it and starting all over again.

"No one wanted to discuss last time." Drusilla stares at the students. "Those who don't complete the entire assignment, written and verbal, shall fail. My new teaching assistant is going to introduce himself today.

On the board is written, "Tell me what you think of your parents. Do you like them? Do you dislike them? Did your daddy kill your mummy with a thousand little bites? One hundred words.

And if you don't discuss this time, you'll fail. Do you want to me to fail you and send you to detention?

There is a sign-in sheet on her desk.

There are also notes pinned to the board:

Missing Attendance (10/20/05):

Dropped For Nonattendance:

OOC: Separate threads forthcoming. Also, as this is posted so late in the day, we'll go through the weekend on class posting.

My parents have always been very important in my life. I should like to aquire the poise and grace of my mother as well as her subtlety and I try to live up to the standards of behavior which she insists upon. I should also like to find a way to express myself as freely as my father does, which leads to a certain amount of internal conflict.

"And dude, if you get your mom's fashion sense? Fuckin' awesome."

"Mother does have a very individual wardrobe," Wednesday agreed. "I would love to be able to wear some of her gowns."

Duce nods enthusiastically, "The pictures you have of her are awesome, and the dresses she picked out for you were soooo nice!" Duce sighs almost wistfully, "Wish we could wear clothing like that, but.. meh. Doesn't really suit."

I'm hoping to not become like my parents. I think that's enough shaping on their part.

Oz nods. "Well said."

"I completley agree."

Both of my parents were a big influence on me. Lately I've been listen to my mother as my father is, ah, away. But before he went away my father was a role model to me. I followed in his footsteps and did my best to please him. Didn't work out too well since it turns out there was no way of pleasing him.

Well, he's gone now so I listen to my mum and aunt as much as I can. My mother just wants me to be safe and happy. I just hope I'll be able to keep my family's reputation in tact. I've got a lot to live up to.

My adopted parents died recently so I guess that's made me have to look after myself and grow up faster despite what Geoff thinks, I don't really know much about my real parents though so I can't really comment there

“I guess my dad’s been more of an influence on me than my mom, or I wouldn’t be so tired today, with the training and everything” says Anders sheepishly. “But I guess my mom kept me from being completely and totally obsessed with playing Pyramid.”

He stops, thinks for a moment, then smiles broadly. “Which is a good thing, now that I think about it.”

I don't believe I would have been able to become the person I am today if my parents had lived. I sometimes wonder who I'd be without my grandmother's firm hand and I'm very glad I had it. I owe my grandmother so much. Everything I am is because of her.

Paige looks over at Jonathan as he speaks feeling sympathy for him though she's pretty sure he wouldn't want it

She also wonders how many orphans there are at the school

((Alanna now wants to start an orphan club. Possibly with a "don't really care/have good parental figures" branch.))

Jonathan sees the look Paige gives him and gives her a reassuring smile in return.

((I love how naive your paige is))

Re: DISCUSSION

Paige smiles and considers asking him out for moment

((she's not naive, she's open minded and doesn't believe rumours,:D (which given all the crap about her going round makes sense) ))

Not knowing what Paige is thinking because otherwise he'd be weirded out intrigued by the fact that they could compare notes on Draco, Jonathan listens to what everyone else has to say about their parents. He looks around the room, smiling towards Paige every so often.

Paige smiles whenever she catches him looking yeah the open relationship thing rocks

Duce watches the dolls as if expecting them to start moving around. Frowning slightly, she moves to straighten the pinafore on one, murmurring, "There, now you're set, pet."

She expounds upon her parents, "Mater is capable of being cheerful and loving in the face of anything, and handles every occasion with aplomb and grace. Obviously, her genes were the recessive ones, and really.. not too upset about that because if we weren't capable of expressing ourself freely and adequately when necessary, life would really, really suck. Pater is the strong, overprotective type, and while that occasionally drives us right up the freaking wall, we can see where we've inheirited those traits from him. Along with his eye colour, but we'll spare you the reference. Pater challenged us all our life to be the most unique person we could be, to make us strong in the face of a world that doesn't deal well with those who look different than the status quo, and to give us the mental, emotional, and physical armaments necessary to deal with life when life goes so far south it sucks penguins." She shrugs, "They love us. That's shaped us. We're different this time around than we were the last, and we can point to both of them for all the good parts about this life. So, as far as parents go, we think we'll keep them. Even if we are still bitter about the pony thing."

Well, I suppose it could be said that the absence of known parents has, on some level, removed me emotionally and allowed me to focus on other things, but otherwise, I don't really know.

Well, I suppose that if they hadn't been horrifically killed, I wouldn't have dedicated my life to getting revenge Xena. I wouldn't have taken up the sword or gathered my army. The Thracian Women's Guild would have no excuse to pack me off here and I'd probably be back in Cirra, happy as the proverbial clam.

But, of course, they were, I did, and I'm here. So really it's more of a shaped more by their absence than their presence kinda thing.

Mystique nods at this. "I'm shaped by their genetics physically. But I'm with Callisto. It's their absence more than their presence."

"I'd say my dad had a lot to do with the man I am today. He was a fighter pilot himself and a stickler for the rules, I'm... notsomuch always huge on rules, but some of that has to do with him I think. My mom... was very proper. She was all about appearances and very strict, the disciplinarian really. Loud and good at dealing out punishments too. Did I already say that?"

[identity profile] alchemy-4-arson.livejournal.com 2005-10-28 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
My parents had very little to do with who I've become today, except perhaps in temperament. In interests and ideas, we couldn't be farther apart. I have goals and ambitions and I love science-- something they couldn't give a whit about. They're interested in honoring the land, making decent profit off farmed goods, and living the pedestrian life. I think most of my life they didn't know what to do with me, so they let me do pretty much whatever I wanted. I wanted to be a state alchemist, so they did finally (after long arguments) agree to send me to a university in the capital, so I'm grateful for that.

They don't give me any spending money though. ::disappointed::

Still, they've heavily influenced my moral upbringing. And knowing about agriculture is surprisingly useful in terms of learning logistics and economics.
