How to Be a Really Famous Actor (And Other Acting Tips), Friday, Period 1

"Now you listen close and you listen hard, bucko," Lucas said, holding up the receiver of an old-school phone. "The next click you hear is me hanging up. The one after that... is me pulling the trigger!" And with that, Lucas hung up.

"That's kind of my 'Feeling lucky punk' quote from one of my biggest hits, 'You Just Don't Exist,'" Lucas said. "When people dress like Cole Hazard at conventions, that's the line they quote. That's the power of a catchphrase. You think Schwartzenegger gets to be a politician today if he couldn't mumble at least one good catchphrase per movie? If you do, you're an idiot and the rest of the class should kick your ass and steal your lunch money."

Lucas waited to see if anyone would raise their hand and volunteer for an ass kicking.

"It's Friday. We're in Hawaii on Sunday. You don't want to do any work now, I get that," Lucas said. "Unfortunately for you guys, 'evil' is in my job description. So you're going to get a bunch of situations and you need to come up with catchphrases for them. Your character is a badass. They're about to do something badass. Figure out what you're going to say and then make it sound badass."

"You should've just kept it," Nathan said, snagging the shirt back and tossing it on his desk. He'd completely forgotten he'd left it there. "Not like I was keeping tabs on which girls I'd left my shirts with. It's like a beautiful parting gift of our all too brief time together. A consolation prize because I couldn't stay."

"Oh, I totally would have kept it," she said, shrugging. "But it didn't fit me well, and it made... people uncomfortable, so I figured it was better to return it than to trash it. I don't need consolation prizes."

"You'd hate being on a gameshow then," Nathan said idly, glancing over at her. "Unless you win the big ass prize, you're gonna be coming home with a consolation prize of some fucking dish soap and the board game version of the show. My shirt might actually be better than that shit."

"I would never go on a fucking game show," Kate replied decisively, shaking her head. "And it's not like they force you to take all that shit with you if you don't want it."

"I'd go on a fucking gameshow in a heartbeat," Nathan said, shaking his head. "You get to be on fucking television and maybe win some money. If you don't, you still can make an ass out of the other contestants. Really, losing just means you win for being memorable."

"Well, good for you, I guess," Kate replied with a faint smirk. "Maybe you'll get to go on one and even wear your fancy shirt."

Unlikely because he figured he'd toss this shirt into the back of his closet and forget about it until the next time he had to dress up. Hopefully not for awhile.

"Yeah, thanks," he said, giving that shirt a little wave. "Being without my one fancy dress shirt was like being without a limb. I kept grabbing at my chest like the shirt was still there but it wasn't. Damn that fucking phantom limb pain."

Kate gave a quiet snort of amusement. "Yeah, I'm sure," she said. "See, it was incredibly nice of me to bring it back. Clearly you would've been in agony forever if I hadn't."

"Your kindness is clearly unmatched," Nathan said, not sounding at all serious. "Now, I can sleep at night and continue on with my life. My week in Hawaii would have truly been a sad one without this shirt. How in the fuck would I have ogled without this peace of mind?"

"That I do not know, friend, and now you won't have to find out either." Said like the stupid shirt mattered at all. "Of course, I could've paraded around Hawaii in that shirt and seen what that woulda done to your awful plight."

"Wouldn't that have done damage to your assumed plans of showing off?" Nathan wondered, glancing over at her. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but you are not shy. And if you have an opportunity to don the least amount of clothes possible and not get arrested, you will do so."

Kate was not going to argue with that assessment much. She had every last intention of flaunting her goods during the coming week, definitely.

"I could've still been showing off even with your shirt on," she shrugged. "It doesn't have to be buttoned up, you know."

"Would you be wearing anything underneath it?" Nathan wondered, raising an eyebrow. "There's no doubt that I would be looking if you weren't but I think the nude beaches mostly exist in Europe and not in America where everything has to be politically correct and covered like we're all fucking Amish."

"Oh, I'd be wearing my bikini," Kate shared. "Which means there would still be plenty to look at, but I think the whole nothing underneath scenario is kinda meant for more intimate settings."

She wasn't that needy for attention, thanks.

Nathan bit down on his dig at her personal life because, well, he didn't want to fight today. He had enough on his mind already. He tilted his head and rubbed his chin a little dramatically.

"What if your bikini's ugly?" he wondered thoughtfully. "Maybe some people would be telling you to button that shirt of mine up."

Kate's face betrayed she thought that was just plain ridiculous. "My bikini's not ugly, you've seen it." Thank you, random Fandom warm weather. "And come on, I bet these hypothetical people would just be jealous."

"And when I did see, I don't think I passed judgment either way," he said, shrugging a shoulder. "Perhaps I didn't want to puke all over your feet because it was just so gag worthy. I think you need a better one. Go with a thong."

"No." That sounded pretty definite. "Thongs are desperate."

Which didn't mean she didn't own some, just not as a part of a bathing suit.

Nathan laughed because he didn't necessarily disagree. "Plus, I'd just start making jokes about your ass eating your bathing suit and wondering how it was digested and if your puke it up since it's going the wrong way."

Classy as always.

"... Eww. That was disgusting, Nathan." In case he didn't know. There was a hint of a snicker to her words, though. "See, so it's best for everyone if I show a little more class than wearing a thong."

"Probably for the best," he said and shrugged. "I guess that means I can shove my shirt back into my closet only to re-emerge should there be another dance that needs my smooth styling and slick attention."

"And since the dances are about the only predictable thing about this school, there will be more," Kate replied with a light nod and a slight upturn of one of the corners of her mouth. "And if I get the random urge to wear a dress shirt with my bikini, I'm sure I'll find someone else who'll oblige."

"Who the fuck is gonna bring a dress shirt on a trip to a tropical location?" Nathan had to wondered. "Isn't the point of a vacation to drink until you puke and have meaningless, random sex with the natives?"

"Fancy waiters," Kate said immediately. "I'm sure there are fancy restaurants with well-dressed waiters in them."

And didn't harassing fancy waiters for their shirts sound like a wonderful holiday activity? She assumed it would be drunk and/or hilarious.

"And you're planning on attending many formal dinners at fancy restaurants on your vacation in Hawaii?" Nathan asked. He wasn't planning that shit.
