Ethics [Thursday, February 17, 1st period]

When the students arrived in the Danger Shop, they found themselves standing in front of an enormous fountain before a giant building.

"Welcome to the Bellagio in Las Vegas," Anakin said with a tiny smile. "Today's lesson is about the sin of gluttony, or overindulge." His hand waved to encompass the sight before them. "In other words, it's pretty much what Las Vegas exists for. Go inside and explore--there is a buffet of more kinds of food than should be legally allowed, and places that promise riches for very little effort. You get a half hour, then return here and we will discuss why this sort of place is so appealing."

"When you don't have enough -- or don't feel you get enough -- then it's very hard to say no when abundance is placed before you with a 'Take me!' sign," Katniss said, sighing.

"Very good," Anakin replied, nodding. "Do you think it would be easier to resist if the downfalls were more apparent?"

"If I'm any example, no," Katniss said with a little smile. "This isn't the first time I've made myself sick on decadent food."

"What kind do you find the most appealing?" Anakin asked.

"Filling things," she said after a moment's pause. "Soup, rice, bread...."

Anakin took a long, petty moment to send a string of curses mentally towards her President.

"So why do you think that eating more than your fill would be considered wrong?"

"Someone else might go hungry?" Katniss said carefully. "Even if not in this instance, people had to work to create that food, and you're wasting their work. Plus it makes you lazy." She smiled, and added, "I just want to nap."

Anakin's lips quirked up. "And I didn't make rooms for this scenario. Do you think that this laziness could affect a society accustomed to such excess?"
