Myths and Legends of the Deep {Thursday, Period 2}

Today, the class was held in the Danger Shop and they'd been handwavily notified ahead of time.

The room depicted an ancient city, some of it in ruins.

"Welcome to Atlantis," Summer smiled, gesturing at the cityscape behind her. "The legend of Atlantis comes from Greek mythology. It's legend is well known throughout history. It's said to be a lost continent of antiquity and though there isn't much evidence to say that Atlantis ever existed, many people, scientists included, are fascinated by it."

"There are those who believe that Atlantis could have existed in the Atlantic, others believe it was in the Mediterranean Sea. And then there are those that believe Atlantis was once located where the Bermuda Triangle is today," Summer explained. "Now, the Greek philosopher Plato, had works that were contained the earliest mentions of Atlantis. Some say that the Greek gods divided up land between and Poseidon was granted the island of Atlantis. Atlantis was said to consist of eighteen rings alternating between land and sea. The center island was ruled by Atlas, son of Poseidon. Under the rule of the gods, Atlantis became great; unfortunately, the entire island was engulfed by the sea and disappeared."

What Summer would give to learn if the island was real or not.

"According to Plato, the Egyptians described Atlantis as as an island comprising mostly mountains in the northern portions and along the shore, and encompassing a great plain of an oblong shape in the south. There are accounts that some ancient writers believed Atlantis to be real, while others saw it as fiction." She paused, wondering if evidence would ever come to pass.

"Though we may never know if it truly existed, I'd like to think that there's some truth to the legend of Atlantis," Summer smiled. "Many have different takes on what Atlantis may have looked like and what you see before you is how I envisioned Atlantis to be. So, feel free to explore and if you have any questions, feel free to find me."

Percy had heard about Atlantis and even read a bit about it so he was going to take advantage of the opportunity and go exploring a little. He made a note to ask his dad about this place at some point.

Exploring was way better than taking notes, even if this was some water-logged city. Thank the gods the danger shop was fake or he might be really concerned for his livelihood.

As soon as they were a safe distance from their teacher's ears, Jason went up to Nico and nudged him in the side. "You suck," he said quietly, although he was smiling at Nico. "Do you have any idea how late I was up last night?"

"And that's my fault how?" Nico asked, elbowing at Jason's arm and starting to understand the glaring.

"You know what you e-mailed me!" Jason said. "It was really good, by the way. I'm assuming you already watched it and knew that though."

"Like I would've sent it otherwise," he pointed out with a little smile. "So you were up real late, huh?" Yeah, no one needed to know exactly what dirty things Nico was thinking after that.
dontvotemeout: (happy: laughing)

"I watched it twice," Jason said, looking a little embarrassed. "I don't know, you could have sent me something you hadn't seen and don't actually like."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
"That doesn't sound like any fun," Nico said, trying to lean on Jason's shoulder. "Guess there's no point asking if you liked it."
dontvotemeout: (happy: sneaky smug)

Jason nodded mutely, moving closer to Nico so he could lean on him. "A lot. I...did you...is it just something you randomly liked? Or do you, you know, like that stuff?"

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
"Just thought it looked interesting," Nico admitted, tilting his head to look down at Jason. "It's like food - you never know what you like till you try it."
dontvotemeout: (happy: small smile)

Re: Explore Atlantis

[personal profile] dontvotemeout 2011-01-21 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
"Is that something you'd...like to try?" Jason asked, trying not to sound too hopeful in case the answer was no.

Nico eyed him, finally cracking a grin at what he decided was an encouraging look on Jason's part. "No, Jay, that's why I sent it to you. To make sure you were totally disinterested in things I didn't want to have anything to do with."

Re: Explore Atlantis

Jason had to laugh at that. "I don't know, you could have just been trying to find out if we have the same taste in porn," he said. "Just because we like seeing it doesn't mean you want to try it in real life."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
"If you wanna give it a try, I'm totally up for it," Nico assured him. "I think you'd have a hard time finding something I'd say no to."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[personal profile] dontvotemeout 2011-01-21 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
"Really? You think?" Jason said, perking up a little more. "I might have to expand my plans then."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Now that was an interesting reply. "You had plans? What sort of plans?"

[personal profile] dontvotemeout 2011-01-21 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
"Well, I have plans. Like getting you tied up again," Jason said, lowering his voice. "Now, I have to figure out a way to work porn scenarios in there."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
Nico grinned. "Maybe I should send you more stuff to mull over. You know, just in case you have a hard time getting your plans figured you for sure." He liked that he wasn't expected to plan.
dontvotemeout: (happy: smug smile)

Re: Explore Atlantis

[personal profile] dontvotemeout 2011-01-21 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm officially stating that you can send me anything like that that you like," Jason said. "'Cause then I'll know what you like and...you know, I can plan accordingly."

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
"Cool. I'll try not to make your inbox explode," he teased. "So long as you don't make me wait forever." Already he was impatient. This didn't bode well.
dontvotemeout: (happy: smug smile)

Re: Explore Atlantis

[personal profile] dontvotemeout 2011-01-21 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
"I could make you wait only a few days. Are you busy this weekend?" Jason asked.

Re: Explore Atlantis

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2011-01-21 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
"Busy with you, I think," Nico said, deciding for them. "Even if it means canceling my spa day." Why he liked kidding with Jason, Nico didn't know.

As if Ariel needed any prompting to go exploring! After all, if they were ruins, there was bound to be treasure!

Still, she couldn't help noticing how amazingly similar these ruins seemed to Atlantica! It was uncanny!

Hmm, this place kind of reminded her of parts of Bordertown. It almost made her homesick.
