Library is OPEN - 10/26

Methos is engaged in a war with the never-ending pile of books to be cataloged. It looks like the books are winning.

"Hey, Doctor," she says. "Having a good day, I take it?" She glances around for Methos. "He was here just a minute ago. I think he's hiding in case Special Collections opens up and spits out the professor that went in without a library card."

[The Doctor turns, smile turning into a smirk.] Hello, Me--Adam. A bit cheeky this morning, I see. Looks like you haven't had enough coffee yet.

As in, this might be required. [He rummages in the bag and hands him a rather tasteful box (http://www.peets.com/shop/gifts_detail.asp?id=1048&cid=1000046).]

Signed, sealed and delivered, I'm sure, Adam. [He leans one elbow on top of the circ desk, chin in hand.] I was just wondering if you found that book--the one we spoke of on Monday--at all.

I'm trying to learn sensitivity and cultural awareness. [It's impossible to tell if he's baiting Methos or not.]

Oh, you didn't have to go to that trouble just for me. [The Doctor's mouth twitches with amusement, once he's certain that Methos can't see him. He's checking out the other man's rear in a very subtle manner while pretending to read a poster of rules on the desktop.]

((That actually EXISTS? I thought I'd made it up! Need to take a nap, back in a while--blame CJ-mun for keeping me up until 3:15.))

[shifting his eyes quickly upward, still smiling that shit-eating grin] Of course I do. [He hands over his library card, accidentally touching Methos' hand as he does.]

((Didn't know you weren't feeling well, will lay off ye, if y'like.))

"Of course not," said Janet. "You'd never flee like a little girl from the evil terrors of the library hide. So sorry. My mistake."

Her tone, however, gives lie to her words.

Aye, you could say that. ...Someone went into Special Collections without a card? Probably the second most dangerous thing one could do around here, save go into Locker 327.

I was looking for him to talk about a book I asked about the other day. And I brought a bribe. Two, actually--one for the lovely assistant...
[He reaches in the bag and hands her a small box of four chocolate-covered strawberries (http://www.istockphoto.com/file_thumbview_approve/477987/2/chocolate_covered_strawberries.jpg), smiling at her.]

The library assistants have first dibs on his soul. His body's all yours, however.

[identity profile] ten-and-chips.livejournal.com 2005-10-26 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't really need his soul much, I can afford to rent. thanks for the deal.

Aw, poor baby. Bet the Doctor would kiss and make it better for you.

"We've nicknamed him Professor Poor, Unfortunate Soul," says Janet. "Hopefully he won't get turned into a gerbil."

"Ooh, chocolate-covered strawberries," says Janet, smiling happily. "Thank you!" She takes the package and slips it into her backpack, wondering if she'll be able to hide them well enough to have them to herself. "It's so nice to see the library staff appreciated properly."

I wonder what they call me behind my back. [This statement is accompanied by a self-depricating smile.]

As for appreciating library staff...let's just say I have personal knowledge of the need for respect. Keep those safe, Ms Fraiser--they're all yours.

"You haven't done anything completely idiotic yet," says Janet with a wry laugh. "So you don't need to worry."

"Thank you," she says sincerely. "They'll be perfect for dessert."
