Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

Ramona was slowly beginning to unwind. Sure, there were unanswered texts on her phone from Todd -- but whatever, he'd left her for his veganism, and no one here really got that, anyway. And sure, Lucas -- Lucas -- was lurking around here somewhere, and about ten years older than the last time she'd seen him.

But the people were nice, and her roommate didn't seem to be a total freak. She might kinda like it here. Maybe. Eventually. But for now, she had food and something to drink, and a good spot to people-watch.

Bruce was a people-watcher himself, so people-watchers tended to catch his eye, just in case they had ulterior motives like he usually did. It didn't hurt that this one had bright hair.

"Judging by the fact that I've never seen you around here, I'd have to guess that you're new," he said, walking over. "Hi, I'm Bruce."

"Maybe I've been hiding for a semester," she replied, smirking slightly. "But hi, all the same. I'm Ramona."

[omg i fell asleep crazy early last night, apologies. :/]

"So what finally brought you out of hiding?" Bruce asked, playing along for now.

[No worries! I figured it was either something like that or the fact that you hate me. :) And now no more pinging until after work. Sigh.]

"New kids," Ramona said, nodding to the masses. "Maybe someone interesting enough for me to stay out of hiding might show up, you know?"

[it's mostly because I hate you, yeah.]

"What's the verdict so far? Have you found that extremely interesting person yet?" Bruce asked.

[My work hates me too and wants me to be bored. Hello, iPod wifi.]

"Not yet," Ramona sighed, tsking. "I mean, it'd take a lot, though. My standards are high."

"Oh yeah? What would it take for someone to meet them?" Bruce asked.

"Well." Ramona tilted her head. "A guy punched a crater in the moon for me recently. So, that's about where the bar's set."

"I'm not sure I can promise that," Bruce said. "I'd have to learn to breathe in space first."

"Not if you moved really, really fast," she said simply.

"I'm fast, but I'm not that fast," Bruce said. "I hope this doesn't mean you have to go back into hiding."

"I'll give it a little while," Ramona said thoughtfully. "Who knows, maybe something good enough will come along."

"I have my fingers crossed," Bruce said. "It would be a shame to lose a wit like yours just because nobody could punch the moon."

"Hey, it doesn't have to be moon-punching," she assured him. "Just on that scale."

"I recently fought a giant robot in a maze for the good of the whole town," Bruce said. "That has to be a start."
