Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

Aaaaand we're done! Wheeeee!

Nathan was still there because, really, where else would he go? He'd had girls bounce in front of him, had a roommate who wanted him and got to eat food he didn't have to pay for.

He'd stick around for a little longer.

Bod's day had been mostly quiet and he didn't really mind that. It allowed him to think, to organize and to hopefully get some things settled in his mind.

He had no doubt he hadn't solved anything but he was trying.

So far, there'd been no sign of anyone to make Percy further doubt his sanity so he was going to count that as a win. Despite that, he was still sticking around since he didn't have much else to do.

He thought about going to get Mrs. O'Leary just for fun but decided against it since his tank like hellhound might freak people out.

Alex was still sticking to the edges of the crowd and he was still smoking. He'd been watching and checking out all the new faces but he'd mostly stayed to himself.

Maybe he'd get up the motivation to talk to people soon.

So, maybe the call of free food had gotten too strong or something, but Kate ended up showing up towards the evening, after a day spent alone around the largely empty town.

She kept to the edges, though, and didn't even bother with people watching too much. This really was more about the food and the warm drinks, though there were a couple of people she was hoping to maybe have a word with.

A talking frog was unusual. A singing frog even more so. But what about a singing frog who plays guitar?

Well there he is, strumming his little heart out, singing a song of welcome.

He takes requests.

Today, Kate was picking people to talk to mostly based on how likely they were to not give a shit about whether she was a little subdued and feeling raw. Tag, Alex. You're it.

"Alex," she greeted mildly with a nod as she walked up to him. "Care to part with one of your cigarettes?"

Yes, this particular attempt at human interaction was mostly born out of necessity, even.

"Maybe," he replied, glancing over at her. "Gonna say the magic word?"

"Please, Mr. Karev."

It was dry as a very dry thing.

"Oooh, how formal," he said but did dig out his cigarettes and tossed her the pack. "You must be really hard up for some nicotine. I'm so glad I can help you out."

Luke was still there, stuffing his face. It's okay, he'd spend extra time in the salle tomorrow. Nobody would notice he'd practically eaten his weight in gummi bears.

"I'm sure you are." She pulled out two cigarettes from the pack, then handed it back to him. He could bitch at her for taking more than she'd said, if he wanted to. She didn't exactly care. "Torment any new kids yet?"

"I'm not really a 'seek and socialize' person," he said, handing her his lighter now. "They can come to me or I'll meet them later. You?"

Leo wasn't necessarily feeling as cheerful as he had been when starting out today, what with the creeper cousin being all threatening at him, but he still had a smile on his face. He always had a smile on his face. It was his thing.

Kate pocketed one of the cigarettes before taking the lighter. "I barely just got here," she said, as she was lighting up. "So no. And I'm not really intending to, either."

"Aren't you usually Miss Flaunt Around and Give Out Candy or something?" Alex was sure he'd heard that at some point. "Turning over a new leaf?"

"Mm, yeah, Miss Third Floor Welcoming Committee, actually," she drawled somewhere between returning the lighter and taking her first drag off the cigarette. "Didn't feel like it this time."

She'd given it about half a thought, at some point.

"Aww, now who will provide the new kids with their welcome?" he wondered, pocketing his lighter. "You're leaving them afloat without an anchor, Kate."

Due to Jacob and then a visit to see Jono, Rosalind found herself later than she'd wished to be at the picnic.

Nonetheless, she was there, in her suit and looking very very professional.

And nibbling on apple slices.

"Well, maybe they'll learn to swim on their own faster," she quipped dryly. "Not my problem."

Alex thought about asking but...he didn't really care all that much. He didn't tend to be a sympathetic guy.

"So, why are you out here?" he wondered. "To steal my cigarettes?"

Kate would've been so disappointed if he'd asked.

"For the food," she said, nodding towards the tables. "It's free and there's a lot of it, kinda seemed dumb not to take advantage."

"You could've grabbed some and left," Alex pointed out, shrugging. "You just missed me, I know it. Can't resist me."
