Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

... Momoko stopped and stared a moment. THAT was someone she had TOTALLY not expected to see and her face broke out in brilliant smiles as she took off running.

"You're back! You're back! You're back! You're back! You're back!"

Hopefully he wouldn't step to the side or anything or he would miss a tackle-glomp of extreme magnitude, because Momoko had missed Warren!

"Why didn't you call and tell me! You totally should have! I missed you! You totally owe me a whole box full of fortune cookies for missing my birthday!"

It was only thanks to demigod reflexes that he didn't completely fall over when Momoko hugged him. The hug was a shock and what she was saying wasn't helping him figure out what the hell was going on.

So he just stood there looking dumbfounded, holding his hands up in the air because hugging a stranger just seemed weird. "Uhhhhhhhh. I think there's been some sort of mistake."

You think, Leo?

Momoko squeezed tighter for a moment. "Ahhh! You're still totally warm! I forgot I missed that!"

She pulled back, bouncing. "What mistake? And why don't I get a hello hug back?" She poked him in the chest. "If you've regressed and stopped giving hugs again, you'd better be ready for emergency therapy."

This girl was absolutely terrifying and not in the steely "can kill you with a glare" Annabeth way.

"I mean this is a mistake because I have no idea who you are," Leo said, hands still in the air. "I'm not who you think I am."

No, but she could glare!

"Warren Peace, if you've forgotten me in a year and a half, I am totally going to cry." She blinked a moment, then stepped back, remembering Dinah and all of the Gotham people who did and didn't know each other. "Ah! It's not a time thing, right? You've been here before, right? Sophomore year?" Taking her to homecoming... dating...

"Nooo I've never been here before." At least he think he hadn't been. If this was another Jason losing his memory thing, Leo was going to totally kill Hera.

Or refuse to save her next time she got trapped in a cage. Whichever.

"I'm Leo Valdez," he said, giving her an apologetic look. "New kid from Texas. Well, actually, I came here from New York, but I identify as Texan."

"Eh?!" Forgive her, this was her first time with a doppelganger of her own.

"Leo? You're not Warren? Are you sure? You totally look like him..." Momoko studied his face closely and trying really hard not to not to sound like the world had just collapsed in on itself. "Well, you do look like you smile a lot more. My Warren didn't smile a lot, even if it totally made my day when he did. And you do sound different..."

She drew a breath and smiled a bit sadly, holding her hand out to him. "Sorry! My name's Momoko Akatsutsumi. You look and feel exactly like someone I miss, but maybe we can be friends anyway? I've been to El Paso; it's nice!"

Leo's ADHD was having trouble processing all this information at once. She's sad, she's happy, she thinks he's someone he's not, now she's talking about El Paso. It took him a couple seconds to notice she had held out her hand.

Mmm learning disorders. Great for battle; crap for normal human conversation.

"I'm from Houston," he said, finally taking a hold of her hand and shaking it. "It's nice to meet you. Sorry I'm not the guy you thought I was."

"The island does stuff like this, don't worry! And I'm sorry I glomped you." Momoko was used to people taking a few minutes to process her conversations, especially when she first met them. Still, it was a slight pang to have it be WARREN's face hesitating at her.

"Is Houston near El Paso? That's the only place I've been in Texas."

"Not really; about twelve hours," Leo said. "But I came here from New York. I haven't been to Texas in a while."

Momoko bounced again. "I've been to New York too! Warren took me on a tour when I got lost there!" She raised a finger. "Ah! Sorry! Not the Warren that you look like, a different one. The Warren from New York has wings, my Warren has fire powers."

Leo was never completely able to hide his feelings on things, so there was a brief look of worry at the mention of fire powers, but he managed to cover it up with a look of interest quickly. Maybe fire has nothing to do with his role in a prophecy; maybe there was just something wrong with his face.

"Wings is a new one," Leo said, because he totally didn't want to talk about fire. "Are they on his shoulders like an angel or on his ankles like Hermes?"

Momoko looked at him like he'd grown another head. "Why would they be on his feet? You totally have no control flying like that. Well, with wings, I mean. Wouldn't you be all off-balance?"

"Uh, well I know--well I don't know him--but the Greek god Hermes has winged shoes," Leo explained. "He seems to fly all right with them."

Or so he's heard. The gods have been MIA for a while.

"Totally weird." She'd be thinking about this, now, Leo. "I mean, I have shoes that let me fly, but that's not wings. Warren's wings are on his back, though. I'm totally going to ask him about the feet thing. He and I fly differently, since I don't have wings."

She grinned, filing that away for later. "So, how can you be from Houston and New York? Aren't they far apart?"

"Yeah, really far apart. I was born in Houston and lived there most my life," Leo explained. "But the last few months I've been living in New York. That's where I'm gonna go back to during breaks and stuff."

"Wow! I don't know Houston, but El Paso seemed totally different from New York. But I guess if that's where your family is." She smiled and shrugged. "I'm from Tokyo City, by the way. Japan."

"Man, that's far from here," he said, shaking his head. "What brings you to school in this country?"

"A portal?" Momoko joked.

"I've been coming to school here since my sophomore year. It a totally awesome school. I think you'll like it here. It's like my second home, now, even if it's in a totally different world."
