Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

Momoko chuckled and sighed at the same time, holding her wrapped wrist for examination. "Yep! I've been icing it and keeping it wrapped, but go ahead! It's still swollen, but not as bad as before!" It also wasn't as many colours.

Scully took it, rotated it gently, moved it back and forth, checking Momoko for pain, and said, "Well, the icing probably helped. No shooting pains? Your fingers work fine?"

Doctor Mom mode, engaged.

There was some wincing, yes. "No shooting pains except when I forget and actually try to use it. And they work fine. The other fingers are totally clumsy, now."

Scully smiled, and gave her her wrist back. "Unsurprising. Don't try to do anything with that for at least a few more days." She tilted her head. "How fast do you heal, anyway?" They'd had half this conversation before, but a sprain was a good baseline check.

Good luck, Scully. Professor Utonium had been at it for five years.

"It depends on what it is. I think this," she waved her hand, "will only last a few days. It's already better than it was; I was myself and landed right on it, so it will take some time, though."

"But if I'd been Blossom and in my costume when it happened?" Momoko shrugged. "It seems to take less time. Although, hmmm. I've never sprained a wrist while Blossom, which is totally weird, since I use a yo-yo all the time."

"Is the costume reinforced to take more kinetic energy?" Scully checked, automatically doing the algebra in her head to convert Momoko's healing rate into something useful if she ever got more hurt. She shook her head, then asked a more 'normal' question: "And how was your break?"

Momoko blinked at her first question. "It's made out of something different, I know that. Some time I'll transform and change so you can look at it. The Professor ran all sorts of tests on it and it didn't catch fire or rip or anything. We don't have magic, so he didn't test against that, but it's been totally fine so far."

She grinned. "And break was AWESOME! I spent time with my friend Dinah in her world, and then with my big sib, Rikku in hers! Totally! Awesome! You?"

"I'd appreciate that," Scully said, smiling. Experiments, woo!

Dana found herself blinking at Momoko's enthusiasm level, as usual, then grinned. "I was in San Diego with my family, got to go to Sea World with my nephews-- basically, I had a good break." Aside from Bill the Butthead.

"Aw! That sounds like fun! I'm the oldest, so I don't have any nieces or nephews yet. Unless Lena comes back to visit this year; she's totally cute." Momoko beamed proudly. "So are you ready for classes? I can't wait! I got some really good ones this semester!"

"Lena?" Scully asked, confused. "And yes, I'm looking forward to mine; paranormal studies and psionics particularly. Which ones are you really looking forward to?"

"Lena's my niece! Well, she will be, in some world, in the future."

"Ah! I've got great classes this time! Fighting with Powers, Science, What Not To Do In A Fight, Teamwork... Oh, and Ethics, with Professor Skywalker? I can't wait!"

"I found his Ethics class very interesting," Scully said, wishing she could even begin to fake some of that teenage enthusiasm. "Fighting with Powers sounds interesting, if you can participate... so how did you meet Lena?" she asked, fascinated. "And how old is she?"

Oh, this wasn't teenage enthusiasm; this was pure Momoko.

"I like Professor Skywalker, so it should be fun! And you should learn how to fight someone with powers even if you don't have any! What if you meet one and they're not friendly?" She tsked her friend. "Lena? She came to visit her mom last year; she's eight and totally cute and has some of her mom's powers, but not very well controlled yet."

"You have a sister-- no, wait, your own sister is younger than you," Scully interrupted herself. "So, this is the daughter of a friend of yours?" She paused, and then blinked. "Is there time travel in this?"

Momoko laughed and patted poor Scully on the shoulder. "It's totally more than that! Lena is from a different world where two of my friends, who totally aren't together here, get married. So she's from the future of another world! But she knows me as her aunt Momoko." She grinned. "If Lena visits again, I'll totally introduce you!"

Scully sighed in relief. It would be sad to be going senile in a teenage body.

"Right. So through some weirdness of the island, you got to meet her, and ... she has superpowers." That much had sunk in. Scully squinted. "It sounds like she could use that course you're taking too. And you're not wrong, knowing how to deal with people who have them is a good idea...."

And if they didn't like her, she could just shoot them!

"Oh! I should talk to Dinah about that! Or, I guess, the other world's me does. She totally needs to go to her Fandom High when she gets old enough!"

Somewhere, Dinah was shivering. A lot.

"I suppose that's one of the best things about this place," Scully said, bemused. "They do have really necessary classes you can't find anywhere else." She shook her head. "I'll want to hear all about your classes, and I'll tell you what I learn in mine, fair?"

"Totally! We can have study parties!" Which of course meant that Momoko would have to pay attention and not daydream the class away with doodles of monster fights trying to pass as notes.
