Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

[OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]
vanillajello: (Uncomfortable.)

Kate hesitated for a moment, debating the level of vagueness she wanted to go with. "Well..." She settled on not very. "A vampire wants to kill me."

"Oh hey that's great! I mean, it's not great that a vampire's trying to kill you," Luke corrected quickly. "I mean, it's good he's a vampire. Then I can give you a knife made out of the same stuff my sword is. So you'll be able to hurt him but you won't be able to hurt mortals while you're still learning."
vanillajello: (Yeah right.)

Kate did get a frown in at his initial, uncorrected reaction, but then her brows bounced up again. That sounded really good. "Oh, excellent. I'm... included in those mortals, right?

Because that would be even better.

"Yeah, of course you are," he said, smiling a little. "Celestial bronze will go right through you. It can only hurt demigods, gods and monsters. Vampires are firmly in the monster category."
vanillajello: (Calm and looking at you.)

"Yeah."

That came out wry. Vampires and monsters were tricky business for her, but it was good to know it was simpler for a type of bronze, at least.

"So no chance of me embarrassing myself by cutting my fingers off, that's... definitely good." She almost smiled, but didn't really get there. "So, when do you think we could start?"

Luke would be the one banging monsters at some point in the future so he really shouldn't have been judging, all things considered.

"We can start whenever you want," he said. "I'm usually in the salle every day anyway. It's like a second home to me."
vanillajello: (Well there's this one thing...)

Kate gave one those light nods of hers. "I used to do that with the dance studio, for a while." But then she'd gotten bored of that, like she tended to do.

She tugged absently on her scarf. "Well, I don't see myself doing much but brooding tomorrow, so that would work fine for me?"

"Tomorrow's good," he said with a nod. "I can definitely get you a knife by then."

Well he could snap his fingers and get one right now, but he figured that would be frowned upon at a school function.
vanillajello: (Sitting and alert.)

"Good, so that's settled," she replied, and nodded again. "Guess I'll see you tomorrow. And uh, thanks. For doing this."

That was one awkward-sounding thank you, right there. But she'd had a rough time lately.

"You're welcome," he said, even though it wasn't a big issue with him. Training people was his job. "I'll see you tomorrow."
vanillajello: (Looking up the stairs.)

Kate nodded once more before turning around and wandering back into the crowd.

... Okay, back to the edges of the crowd. Wasn't like she'd suddenly gotten any more willing to socialize.
