Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

In order to give people a place to get away from the traffic jam of the buffet and information tables, most of the chairs and tables had been set up further out on the lawn, away from the school building. The bonfires were going strong, and there was plenty of room for everyone to sit down and enjoy themselves. Assuming they weren't too busy still trying to figure this place out.

"It was okay, I guess."

Look, little bouncy Bobby shouldn't be subjected to stories of just how bad her holiday had been, Kate had decided. She even tried to smile. It fell a little short of convincing but it was more than most people were getting. "Hey, Bobby."

He smiled back, but he wasn't entirely convinced so he decided Kate needed a hug. One that she could of course dodge out of since his ninja-like skills were non-existent. "I wish it was better than okay!" he told her.

Kate didn't dodge it. She did wince a little, though, thanks to the bruise on her ribs that was still in the process of healing, but it didn't hurt so much that it would've kept her from hugging him back, if a little awkwardly.

She was still a little startled. "Uh, well, maybe the next one will be better?"

Seriously, how could this kid have the same face as Percy, of all people?

"I hope so too," Bobby said, completely sincere. "Maybe spring break will be better? I think that would allowed."

"Maybe," Kate allowed. Really, she didn't have high hopes for much of anything, at this point. "We'll see when we get there."

"Well, yeah, I can't see the future or anything," he agreed. "I wonder if anyone here can. That'd be cool, but I don't think I'd want to be able to."

"I knew a guy whose dad could see the future," she shared idly. Oh, she missed Leto when everything was insane. "He said it really wasn't all it's cracked up to be."

"I bet," Bobby agreed, thinking about that. "Cause - what if you don't like the future. And then you have to decide if if'd be okay to change it or if you'd be destroying everything. That's more pressure than I want."

"Exactly," Kate nodded. "Not gonna say it wouldn't come in handy sometimes too, though. Especially here."

Bobby laughed. "So you'd never end up with pudding in your hair if it decided to rain or something."

"Mm, something like that," she agreed in a subdued manner, then changed the subject before getting too far into her gloom. "Did you have a good break?"

"Yeah, I mean, it was fun to be home and share a room with Jack again instead of Alex. I liked seeing my mom," he said. "But I'm happy to be back."

Kate raised her eyebrows. "Alex? Alex as in Karev?" 'Hot Alex with the cigarettes' was probably an inappropriate way to call him. "That's your roommate? When did this happen?"

Bobby nodded. "Before Thanksgiving. My mom didn't like me rooming with a girl so she made the principal change me. I guess Alex got the short straw."

"No, but I think you might've," Kate snorted. "How's that been going for you?"

Bobby made a face. "He calls me a gnome."
