BWI Portalocity Lounge [Sunday morning]

While Ramona had seen a lot of things, and traveling by portal hadn't really freaked her out or anything, she still wasn't really feeling great about being here. Maybe making an impulse decision to go to Maryland (of all places) hadn't been her best move.

In any case, though, she was here now, and there wasn't really a reason for her to turn back without giving it at least a day or so. So she lounged against the wall under the sign for Fandom High in the lounge, her bags by her feet as she waited for the shuttle.

[OCD coming up shortly! OCD IS UP WHEEE NEWBIES.]

Stephanie's briefing about Fandom High had been as thorough as you might expect a briefing from Batman would be (except for the part where certain key bits of information had eluded his sources somehow), so the portal travel wasn't a surprise. Still weird, but not a surprise.

At least Bruce had supplied her with new -- but not overtly expensive-looking -- luggage for the trip; apparently her beat-up old gym bags wouldn't do.

She was slouched against the wall, looking over the schedule of classes Bruce had signed her up for; she still wasn't thrilled about this whole situation, not being able to keep an eye on Gotham herself, but . . . well. This stuff could be useful.

This might not be so bad after all -- she could give it a shot.

Tony gave her a friendly smile, nodding in her direction. Another new person who might not talk about talking, learning beds.

Seriously, what the hell was that all about?

. . . talking beds. Yeah, Steph's world was special, but not that way.

"Hi," she answered, smiling back; not her most genuine, but she was trying. "New Fandom High kid too?"

So much for boarding school being the exclusive province of the upper crust?

Famous last mental-voice words.

Hey now. Tony was technically a billionaire or something.

"Yeah," he admitted, scooting closer for an actual conversation to not be shouted. "I'm Tony."

So technically Steph knew two of those! It was kind of like home away from home!

"Stephanie," she answered, holding a hand out. "How much do you know about this place?"

"Other than it claims to be the perfect school for those with unorthodox learning habits? Nothing, really." Damn that brochure.

Pesky brochure. Pesky information (in)conveniently filtered to various people!

"That's about all I heard, too," you know, aside from all the parts that were relevant to the secret-identity-vigilanteing business. Steph waved a hand jauntily. "Pfft. Orthodox is so passe these days, anyway."

"Not one for normal schooling either?" Tony asked with a grin. This might be a decent school...

"Oh, I've been going to normal schools," Steph explained. "But I have a, uh, benefactor back home who thought I needed a change, and this place was the perfect change of pace for me. Do you know what you're taking yet?"

"Hey," answered Stephanie, looking up from the class schedule. ". . . nice hair."

She had a pretty good feeling that was a sign Fandom wouldn't be anything like Brentwood Academy, which was fine with her; Tim had seemed pretty miserable there.

Things might be looking up already.

"At the risk of accidentally crushing someone's ego I, too, am Fandom High-bound," Steph answered, turning the paper in her hand to display the school logo. (Just in case she had to prove it.) "I never realized this kind of travel was normal enough to have an entire airport lounge, though."

A Wayne Enterprises prototype maybe, sure. But this commonplace?

"Me too," Steph agreed. "I used to ride my bike, until my first high school got leveled in an earthquake and I got transferred to the one in the city. Then I had to take the bus. Actually living at school is going to be new."

"Tell me about it." Steph wrinkled her nose. "The entire city got cut off from the rest of the country, and every criminal ever got loose. It wasn't fun."

Not that she was mentioning helping Huntress chase Daddy Dearest through the wreckage.

"But anyway. Do you know who you're supposed to be living with yet? They haven't told me."

"I'm sorry, are we the No Fun Police?!" Hank demanded, swooping in on her and making a grab at her schedule. "We're about to go to school, and you're sitting here reading?!?! What is WRONG with you!?!?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Steph tried to yank her hand back, but not in time to keep him from yanking the schedule away.

"Oooh, my bad. Here I thought I should be prepared for the place before I got there," she grumbled, flailing somewhat ineffectually back at her schedule. "I didn't realize flying blind was part of the learning experience!"

"Oh, boy!!! Do you think it is!?!? I always wanted to learn stunt piloting!!!"

Hank peered at the schedule, trying to figure it out.

Re: Wait for the shuttle!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-01-02 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Steph's class schedule consisted of Fighting With Powers (funny, Bruce), Getting Yourself Out of Tight Situations, Physiology, French, and Spanish.

The stunt piloting thing got a slight eyeroll out of her, because she was still sore about not getting to learn how to fly the Batplane.

"If it is, I didn't get signed up for it. I heard there was a class on spaceships last semester, though." She made a swipe at her schedule again. "Hey, weren't you the one who just said there was something wrong with reading?"

Hank tried to keep the paper out of her reach, but completely failed to keep her from getting it back. So he stuck his tongue out at her.

"Yeah, but I thought you were reading, like, a book or something. That's just your schedule."

Re: Wait for the shuttle!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-01-03 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Classes start tomorrow," Steph pointed out, not above sticking her tongue out right back. "What kind of impression would I make on my first day if I totally flaked on my first class?"

Re: Wait for the shuttle!

[identity profile] i-am-the-rat.livejournal.com 2011-01-03 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
"So, what? You'd rather sit in the front of the class and get brown all over your nose? As if!"

Re: Wait for the shuttle!

[identity profile] batwaffles.livejournal.com 2011-01-03 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, please," Steph retorted. "I have better things to do than suck up to the teachers."

Like jump through hoops to impress her boss. Hush.

"But I got an opportunity, coming here, and I don't want to waste it. Though if you want to do that, hey, be my guest."
